Athirah Seng Kaning receives Excellence Award from Dimension BID Sdn. Bhd.
PAYA BESAR, 6 November 2022 – A labourer’s daughter, Athirah Seng Kaning, 23 received the Excellence Award from Dimension BID Sdn. Bhd. at the UMP 17th Convocation Ceremony held at the UMP Sports Complex Hall.
Athirah was a graduand of Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) in Material Technology from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI), and her resolve to change the fate of her family kept her going through her study.
This Terengganu-born has a mixed ancestry; her father Seng Kaning, 62, is from Pattani, Thailand, but has been living in Terengganu for almost 30 years.
Her mother Rahimah Mohd Nor, 55, a housewife, has always supported the interests of Athirah, the fifth of eight siblings.
Athirah aspires to become a successful engineer in the future.
She intends to resume her studies and is now working part-time as a cashier to collect money so as not to burden her family.
“UMP lecturers always care about students and are ready to help if students encounter problems, especially in lessons.
“UMP also emphasises the importance for students to receive adequate practical training in each course.
“For example, I as a student from the technology programme always get laboratory training.
“I am grateful to be able to complete the final project because for me it required a very precise process and effort,” she said.
Holding the principle of always improving oneself fuelled her to achieve success.
She also shared her experience of enjoying her engagement in various activities organised by UMP before the MCO due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She said the COVID-19 pandemic indeed challenged the patience level of all students in undergoing online learning sessions.
“However, life goes on and overcoming any obstacles is a must if we want to succeed.
“I will definitely cherish my memories with UMP for as long as I live,” she said.
