Nurul daughter of tailor recipient of Telekom Excellence Award
KUANTAN, 17 March 2020 - Her mother’s tenacity and perseverance became the driving force and inspiration for Nurul Md Yunus, 26, who was selected to receive the Telekom Malaysia Berhad Excellence Award at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) 15th Convocation Ceremony recently.
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Material Technology with Honours graduand said her mother’s determination to make a living by sewing clothes to raise her four siblings made her excel in her study.
“I would like to present today’s success to my mother who has been my biggest success driver and has always helped in various things including motivation and finances.
“In fact, I always hold on to my mother’s advice.
“According to my mother, only education will change one’s fate and life,” she said.
She added that the biggest success that should not be forgotten was when she first received the Dean’s List Award because he did not expect to get it.
She said she was taking the Engineering Technology (Electrical) course but she enrolled in Life Sciences module during her Malaysia Higher School Certificate (STPM).
Sharing her experience, she did not take Physics then.
Thus, her friends helped a lot by studying Physics, electrical circuits and others until she mastered the subject.
She also shared her success tips; do not give up before trying, always think positive and do not be shy to ask the experts if there is a problem or do not understand something.
She is currently pursuing her Master of Science degree at UMP.
“UMP is the best university and I am following in my brother’s footsteps who is also a UMP alumnus in 2019.
“I would also like to thank my friends and lecturers who have always helped and encouraged me over the years,” she said.
She hoped she would continue gaining knowledge and contribute all her expertise to the family and the community.
