CITREX 2024 UMPSA celebrates innovative researchers
GAMBANG, 9 May 2024 - The 14th edition of the Creation, Innovation, Technology & Research Exposition (CITREX) 2024 of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) saw a total of 93 gold winners, 126 silver winners and 35 bronze winners involving 255 entries from the categories of staff, IPT students and school students.
A total of 10 categories and 30 special awards were contested this year.
The prizes and awards were contributed by the UMPSA responsibility centres to support and encourage the creativity and innovation of researchers in research in schools and universities, as well as being able to have an impact in realising the national research vision and mission.
In attendance to officiate the programme was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman representing the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor.
Also present were Professor Dr. ChM Mohd Hasbi Ab Rahim, who performs the functions of Head of Research and Innovation Department (JPI) and Senior Director (Research Excellence Management Centre), Research and Innovation Department, Professor ChM Dr. Chong Kwok Feng.
Also present was the JPI Senior Manager, Rosilavi Mat Jusoh.
Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman said that the organisation of CITREX by JPI proves the seriousness of UMPSA in realising its existence as a public university (UA) in producing great researchers and also as a medium for producing and gathering works that can be utilised to solve problems faced by the global community in line with UMPSA’s slogan of ‘Technology for Society’.
“Researchers need to be more creative and innovative in facing today’s challenges and need to drive momentum in the field of research.
“On behalf of UMPSA, I really appreciate the 255 participants from public universities and school students,” he said.
He also encouraged all researchers to welcome government initiatives in the field of research, especially in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
“AI is a technology that can bring great benefits to us as individuals, society and the country,” he said.
The program saw the Best of the Best award in the staff category won by Dr. Nadzirah Mohd Mokhtar, Associate Professor Dr. Roshahliza M Ramli, Razman Mohd Maulot, Ts. Joharizal Johari and Jehovah Yii Zui Hon with the project titled Distilwise IoT: Compact Membrane Distillation with IoT Monitoring System.
Meanwhile, the Best of the Best award in the student category was won by UMPSA students Subash Rao Pothorajoo, Nur Aliya Mohd Nadzri, Aghilan Ganesan, Ainin Sofea Qistina Mohd Riduan and Nazman Izam under the supervision of Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Ruzinah Isha with the project titled Zero Waste: Transforming Municipal Waste into Gasoline.
