CML welcomes Short Semester 2025/2026 and Preliminary Session 2026/2027 students

PEKAN, 22 July 2026 – The Centre for Modern Languages (CML), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), warmly welcomed students to the commencement of the Preliminary Semester for 2026/2027 and Short Semester for Session 2025/2026. 

The new semester marks another important milestone as the Centre continues its commitment to equipping students with the English language and communication skills essential for academic success and future employability.

The Preliminary Semester serves as the first academic experience for newly enrolled diploma students, providing them with a strong foundation in English before embarking on their respective programmes. 

At the same time, the Short Semester offers continuing students the opportunity to complete their academic requirements while further enhancing their language proficiency.

For this preliminary semester dedicated instructors from CML have been entrusted with teaching 31 sections of ULE1212 Essential English, ensuring that students receive quality instruction and continuous academic support throughout the semester. 

The course is designed to strengthen students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills at the CEFR B1 level. 

Throughout the semester, students will engage in communicative learning activities, develop effective reading strategies, and learn to produce structured paragraphs and essays. 

The course also encourages students to communicate confidently on familiar academic and everyday topics, preparing them for the linguistic demands of university life.

Dean of the Centre for Modern Languages, Associate Professor Dr. Zuraina Ali said, strong English language skills are essential in preparing our students to communicate confidently, participate effectively in academic and professional settings, and meet future challenges. 

“With the dedication of our instructors and continuous enhancement of our teaching practices, CML remains committed to empowering students with the language competencies needed for success,” she said. 

Students will also continue to benefit from the Reading Circle Programme (RCP), which remains an integral component of language learning at CML. 

This semester, RCP activities will be conducted during regular class sessions, enabling students to participate in collaborative reading discussions and interactive classroom activities using the existing reading materials. 

The programme continues to promote reading habits while fostering critical thinking, vocabulary development, and communication skills.

As the semester begins, CML expresses its sincere appreciation to the instructors and staff who are committed to delivering engaging lessons and creating a supportive learning environment. 

Their dedication, professionalism, and passion for teaching play a vital role in helping students achieve the course learning outcomes while ensuring a smooth and successful start to the semester.
