Muhammad Azfar bearly misses UMPSA Convocation Ceremony

GAMBANG, 29 October 2024 – The excitement of a family attending the 19th Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) Convocation Ceremony today was almost shattered when they were involved in a road accident while on their way to the Sports Complex Hall, UMPSA Gambang Campus.

Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering graduate, Muhammad Azfar Farhan Mohd Tarmizi, 22, nearly missed the opportunity to walk the convocation stage when the vehicle driven by his brother was involved in an accident.

However, he was grateful that all family members were safe, with only a minor injury to his lip.

He said that he had travelled with his father, sister, and brother from Alor Setar, Kedah, and never expected that their long journey to celebrate his achievement would be tested by a road accident in Kuantan.

“The swift action of my two friends, Muhammad Fayyadh Harith Abd Halim and Muhammad Syafie Notzir, who brought us to the event, gave my family and me a chance to capture this beautiful memory and fulfil the wish of my late mother, who had always wanted to see my convocation ceremony.

“I am deeply touched by the help of my friends, who were willing to sacrifice their time, even though it caused them to enter the hall late.

“Alhamdulillah, the UMPSA staff made things easier for my family and me.

“I am very grateful, and this memory will be cherished for a lifetime,” he said.

Recalling the morning’s incident, their vehicle collided with another vehicle at a traffic light junction in front of Universiti Kolej Widad, and the accident happened very quickly.

Azfar, who recently lost his mother, Rusnii Ahmad, on 12 August, said he had fulfilled his mother’s wish to see him graduate, even though she could not celebrate with him.

“Mum, thank you for giving me the strength and always advising me not to give up and to never back down from anything I do,” he said.

“I will continue my late mother’s wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree,” he added.

His father, Mohd Tarmizi Hashim, 56, said that although they were involved in an accident, they were grateful that everyone was safe.

He felt emotional thinking about his late wife, who had been eager to witness their child on the convocation stage.

“Alhamdulillah, we are all safe, but Azfar sustained minor injuries to his lip and face.

“I am also grateful to be present to celebrate my son’s success.

“I truly appreciate the university’s assistance in helping our family,” he said.

Azfar received his Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr Yuserrie Zainuddin, during the Fifth Session of the 19th UMPSA Convocation Ceremony today.

In light of their situation, UMPSA extended support to ease the family’s burden by providing transportation and accommodation facilities.

Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr Yuserrie Zainuddin also took the time to meet and offer his condolences to the family.
