UMP convocation officially ends, 12,174 graduands celebrated throughout 2022
PAYA BESAR, 8 November 2022 - The Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Convocation Ceremony successfully celebrated 12,174 graduands this year through the organisation of three ceremonies involving graduands from 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The UMP 15th Convocation Ceremony (MKK15) saw 3,556 graduands celebrated from 16 to 20 March 2022 at the Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Kuantan, following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) due to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the UMP 16th Convocation Ceremony (MKK16) held from 6 to 9 August 2022 saw 4,083 graduands for 2021 and 4,535 graduands conferred at the 17th Convocation Ceremony (MKK17) from 5 to 8 November 2022 at the Sports Complex Hall UMP Gambang Campus or now known as UMP Paya Besar.
The UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin congratulated all graduands and hoped they would devote their knowledge, experience and expertise to continue the glory of UMP.
“Graduands are also advised not to forget the sacrifices of their parents, family, friends and UMP associates who have been helping together starting from the beginning of their entry into the university until they become alumni,” he said in the sixth session of the final convocation ceremony this year.
He, representing the university’s top management, also appreciated and thanked the UMP Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.). Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor, who was present to confer degrees and awards of excellence to graduands on the first day of the convocation ceremony, which was also attended by the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman and the members of the University Board of Directors (LPU).
In addition, he congratulated and thanked all the MKK Organising Committees and the Expo Convocation Organising Committee who managed to ensure that all programmes ran smoothly.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the MKK Organising Committee, Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim, who is also the Registrar of UMP, said he was grateful when the organisation of the convocation ceremony went smoothly with the commitment and good cooperation of all the officers under the respective committees with various reforms and was able to gain various new experiences.
Meanwhile, the organisation of the Malaysian Taste Food Festival and the 2022 Convocation Expo also succeeded in allowing campus residents and the public to get to know the identity of Pahang which is famous for its unique and popular traditional menus in its districts through culinary competition, themed menus from states in Malaysia and districts in Pahang in collaboration with ADABI.
According to Saiful Bahri, UMP also launched the Ready to Eat food package through retort technology under the food@campus initiative (UMP Campus Pantry) in collaboration with various parties with the aim of Zero Hunger on campus via a joint venture between the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (JHEPA) and Yayasan UMP.
“This assistance is in preparation for providing food and emergencies for students who need food.
In addition, this effort was formulated as a long-term plan by developing a comprehensive Sustainable Campus Life Planning covering food plans, hostels, transportation, devices, and others for students.
Also taking place was the Research and Technology and Food Safety Exhibition organised by the Institute of Civilisation and Strategic Studies (ITKAS) and the Research and Innovation Department.
Among the products on display is Prepecto which uses prebiotic plant nutrition technology from Dr. Noormazlinah Ahmad and the latest product of good honey sugar to replace sugar in everyday life.
Similarly, Kleva Bio Fertilizer Plus+ from Associate Professor Dr. Nina Suhaity Azmi became one of the products that attracted visitors during the Malaysia Taste Food Festival Exhibition and the 2022 Convocation Expo.
Other products include fertilisers, intelligent monitoring systems, IoT, stingless bee honey and others.
Also participating in the exhibition, MNR Multitech and Supercat companies established by UMP researcher Ts. Mohd Najib Razali who promotes products that can treat wastewater from various industries using a solidifying agent to separate oil residues from water and high quality cat food products with a protein content of up to 38 per cent.
The UMP Convocation Expo was also enlivened by a special performance by Dato’ Ahmad Azhar Othman or Awie who was present with members of the Pahang WMGS, the largest motor club in Pahang and among the earliest charters in the ASEAN WMGS which has charters throughout Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and Thailand.
