UMPSA offers opportunity to continue studying through APEL

PEKAN, 16 April 2024 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) offers the opportunity to continue studies for adults and those who have previous experience including work experience to obtain academic qualifications.

This offer is also open to professionals who are interested in finding career advancement opportunities but do not have the required academic qualifications or graduates and students who have completed formal education and intend to return to study.

Through the open status of the UMPSA APEL Assessment Centre (PPA), UMPSA is an IPTA appointed by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to receive and fully process APEL.A assessments for admission to level 6 (Bachelor’s Degree) and level 7 (Master’s Degree) programmes for Malaysian citizens and non-citizens.

APEL is an accreditation of prior experience-based learning and is a systematic process involving the process of identifying, documenting and assessing prior experience-based learning.

According to the Director of APEL UMPSA Assessment Centre, Dr. Nor Alisa Mohd Damanhuri, APEL provides opportunities for those with work experience but lack qualifications or academic qualifications to continue their studies at Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL).

“In general, the APEL assessment involves an assessment of the knowledge obtained by a person through formal education or previous experience.

“In addition, APEL.A is the only opportunity for admission to the programme of interest,” she said.

She advised people not to worry even if they do not have enough academic qualifications, APEL.A can help to continue their studies.

“Work experience, sufficient age with predetermined conditions and passing the APEL.A assessment will allow them to enrol in the programme of interest.

“The advantages of APEL include being able to recognise the previous learning and experience of adult students, formal, informal and nonformal.

“More interestingly, it can reduce repetitive learning for adult students, save costs and time to graduate, especially for those who are busy and have time constraints due to work and family commitments,” she said.

UMPSA is one of the PPAs appointed by MQA that offers online APEL.A assessment.

Admission to UMPSA can also be made through APEL.A.

Register immediately on the APEL MQA website (https://www2.mqa.gov.my/APEL/) and select UMPSA as the Assessment Centre.
