Engineering Exchange Programmeme CHEST X Mechapro at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII): Sharing Knowledge and Renewable Energy Innovation
YOGYAKARTA, 27 September 2024 – A total of 20 students from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP) and the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA) at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) recently participated in the Engineering Exchange CHEST X Mechapro Programmeme at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII).
This eight-day programme was led by FTKKP Lecturer and Programme Advisor Ts. Junaidi Zakaria and Dr. Jun Haslinda Haji Sharaffuddin, with additional support from Co-Advisor Ts. Dr. Azizul Helmi Sofian.
According to Dr. Jun Haslinda, the programme aimed to broaden understanding in the fields of engineering and energy innovation.
“Our presence here is to provide guidance and support to the students as they engage in various activities and learning experiences throughout the programme.
“One of the programme highlights was a special lecture delivered by Ts. Junaidi alongside UII lecturer Dr. Muflih Arisa Adnan.
“They discussed the topic ‘Innovation in Renewable Energy: Driving the Future,’ addressing the importance of innovation in renewable energy as a key driver towards a more sustainable future,” she explained.
A total of 40 students from Malaysia and Indonesia participated in this session.
Additionally, participants exchanged ideas and opinions on the challenges and potential of green energy.
“In an effort to stimulate creativity and critical thinking among students, they were divided into seven groups to engage in discussions and problem-solving activities related to energy innovation which included deliberations on both countries’ readiness to commit to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“Following a thorough discussion and evaluation process, three best groups were selected based on the quality of their ideas and the feasibility of their proposed projects.
“This programme not only successfully strengthened academic ties between the two nations but also provided students with an opportunity to understand international perspectives in engineering and renewable energy,” she elaborated.
The programme was made possible through the support of BASF Chemicals Sdn. Bhd., the main sponsor and industry partner with additional sponsorships that came from Era Jaya Plantation Sdn. Bhd., Forthwith Engineering Sdn. Bhd., Zhes Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd., MNR Multitech Sdn. Bhd., Taat Bestari Sdn.
