UMP, Ulm University of Applied Sciences collaborate on German Model campus sustainability programme

FRANKFURT, 15 July 2022 - Networking collaboration for campus sustainability between Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU), Germany will develop a campus sustainability model with a German Engineering education that is based on the Fachhochschule in the national higher education system.

The collaboration involves exchanging information and knowledge, academic research, and sharing best practices, especially in benchmarking high-level TVET based on the Ulmer Model approach implemented at THU.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was witnessed by the Consul General of Malaysia in Frankfurt, Farzamie Sarkawi, took place at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Frankfurt.

At the event, UMP was represented by its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin and the Dean of the Department of Mathematics and Economic Sciences, Professor Dr. Marc-Oliver Otto representing THU.

Also present was the Senior Dean, College of Engineering Technology UMP, Professor Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim and the Head of the International Energy Competence Network (IECN), Professor Dr. Walter Georg Commerell.

According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, UMP’s collaboration with universities in Germany over the past 12 years has resulted in UMP dual degree programmes with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) in Mechatronic, Automotive and Electrical Engineering.

“Meanwhile, the Business Engineering programme will commence with a new partner from Mannheim University of Applied Sciences (HsMA).

“The university collaboration with the European country began through UMP negotiations with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), a German government agency responsible for international academic collaboration around 2010 with the support of the German embassy and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE),” he said.

He said that since the programme began in 2010, 181 UMP students have successfully graduated from the dual degree programmes involving 108 students from mechatronic engineering and 66 students from automotive engineering programme.

“Meanwhile, seven students have graduated from the Business Engineering programme,” he said.

The good relationship allows UMP to collaborate with big German industries such as Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, BMW, Robert Bosch, Muehlbauer Technologies and Elektrisola which provide industrial training placement, staff exchange, industrial visits and job opportunities.
