‘Yo’ service remembered, receives award from UMP
KUANTAN, 27 December 2021 - Two individuals named ‘Yo’ received an award from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) for their services and sacrifices after rescuing a family of flood victims living in Tanah RTK Ekonomi Sri Damai in the recent flood disaster in Pahang.
Shaharul Anuar Ismail, 39 who works as a UMP Operations Assistant with his neighbour who is also his good friend in Taman Sri Damai Aman, Kamarul Azam Kamat Audah, 32, both known as ‘Yo’, received a certificate of appreciation presented by Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin in an event to celebrate them in Kuantan recently.
Also present was the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad.
Also celebrated were the families of Hanafi Muhamad Yusoff, Taman Sri Damai KRT Chairman, Jaafar Embong and Jiranita KRT of Taman Sri Damai Aman, Rohana Sulaiman who were also with them during the incident.
They braved the dark at around 1.00 a.m. to help evacuate this family which was located almost 500 meters from his house.
They waded through the strong current in the banana plantation area by boarding their neighbour’s boat and several times almost swept away by strong currents.
Their quick action also helped the fire brigade identify the location in rescuing the families of other victims at the location.
According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, their volunteerism should be exemplified for UMP members and the community in an effort to help other people when faced with difficult situations.
