Cleaning Pantai Pelindung, PSM CSR with Trash Hero Kuantan

KUANTAN, 13 May 2023 - A total of 65 UMP Kilau volunteers from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) among Foundation students, Bachelor of Data Analytics students and staff cleaned Pantai Pelindung area that visitors always frequent.

The programme, which was collaborated by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Trash Hero Kuantan, managed to collect 213.3 kg of garbage around the beach.

According to the Dean of PSM, Professor Dr. Mohd Zuki Salleh, they would analyse the data obtained from the garbage collection today and the collaborative agencies to raise awareness in public about the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness.

“In addition, we will publish reports in the form of visual data to be shared on social media to raise public awareness about the effects of uncontrolled waste disposal.

“This CSR programme is one of PSM’s initiatives to help the community while preserving the environment,” he said.

Also representing Trash Hero Kuantan Trash were Anne Vendargon and Syarifah Syazrah Syed Ab Mutalib.

For Professor Dr. Mohd Zuki, garbage on the beach not only mars the view but also harms the ecosystem for animals in the sea.

In addition, this programme fostered a sense of responsibility and love for the environment for students and strengthened student relationships with PSM staff.
