KILAU UMP volunteers donate sahur meals to city residents
KUALA LUMPUR, 28 April 2022 - A total of 40 student and staff volunteers from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) distributed 350 packs of sahur meals and food in the Singgah Sahur@Kuala Lumpur Programme today.
The programme began with the delivery of personal needs such as hygiene kits, towels and food at the Kuala Lumpur Homeless Transit Centre (PTGKL).
Present to receive the donation was PTGKL’s Operations Officer, Syed Anas Dato’ Syed Ali.
This programme is a continuation of the Singgah Sahur@Port Dickson and Singgah Sahur@Kuantan programmes that have taken place since the beginning of Ramadan.
To date, 1,000 sahur meals have been donated to beneficiaries in the three programmes.
According to the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman who is also the Chairman of Yayasan UMP, this programme has opened opportunities for student and staff volunteers to join forces in manifesting the spirit of volunteerism to help the homeless who need community attention.
“The volunteers get the exposure to the reality as a frontliner and the lives of the homeless in this city and be able to apply the spirit of volunteerism in themselves,” he said.
Meanwhile, a total of RM250,000 has been donated on behalf of Yayasan UMP to prepare iftar for students and distribute food donations and assistance to the community.
The Singgah Sahur Programme is coordinated by the Yayasan UMP Volunteer Secretariat under the Institute of Civilisation and Strategic Studies (ITKAS) to show concern for the disadvantaged and appreciate public employees from government agencies who work at night.
Meanwhile, UMP’s visit to IPD Dang Wangi was received by ACP Noor Dellhan Yahaya, the Dang Wangi District Police Chief and the officers.
Also present in the programme were Dato’ Ts. Izwan Hasli Ibrahim and Datin Nur Sharmila Shaheen who are Members of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UMP.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed and Registrar, Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim.
The programme ended with food distribution to the homeless around Kota Raya, Pudu Raya, Anjung Singgah and Anjung Kelana with Kindness Malaysia NGO.
