GAMBANG, 26 October 2024 – A total of three graduands received dual degrees from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), Kazakhstan, for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Biotechnology with Honours program, one from UMPSA and two others from KazNARU.

The three of them, Lim Yeow Hong, 24 (UMPSA), Serikova Zhaniya, 24 (KazNARU) and Akshimbayez Danil, 21 (KazNARU), were the pioneers of the dual degree programme.

Lim Yeow Hong received his degree from His Majesty the Crown Prince of Pahang in the 19th UMPSA Convocation Ceremony in the first session.

Through this collaboration programme, students will study for three years at KazNARU and one year at UMPSA.
Students enrolled in this programme receive two degrees from the two universities.

According to Lim Yeow Hong, many benefits were obtained through this dual degree programme.

“I can improve my skills by studying biotechnology subjects that are not included in the syllabus at UMPSA, such as veterinary biotechnology and food packaging methods.

“While undergoing industrial training at KazNARU, I was able to complete my thesis and became one of the authors of a scientific paper in the field of pollen allergy vaccine research.

“In addition, I had the opportunity to participate in research activities by studying pollen allergy vaccine formulations from the Artemisia vulgaris plant,” he said.

He, who is very passionate about research, experienced mountain climbing activities in winter and summer.
He also took the initiative to learn Russian to a B2 fluency level within a year.

Meanwhile, for Akshimbayev Danil and Serikova Zhaniya from Ridder City, Kazakhstan, their studies for two semesters at the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology (FSTI) UMPSA gave a lot of experiences and sweet memories, especially being in a foreign country.

Zhaniya said she was thrilled to come to Malaysia and further her study at UMPSA.

“Experiencing the culture, mingling with the people of Malaysia, and enjoying the beauty of Pahang Darul Makmur is an experience and sweet memory that I will never forget.

“I am excited to study at UMPSA because the education system here is slightly different from the education system in my country.

“I also really admire the facilities provided for the students here,” she added.

Zhaniya hoped that more students would come to Malaysia to further their studies at UMPSA.

She added that UMPSA is the best university for students who want to further their studies, especially for dual degree programmes.

In addition to Kazakhstan, UMPSA offers dual degree programmes in collaboration with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), Germany and Mannheim University of Applied Sciences (HMA), Germany.

This collaboration is also extended to China through a partnership with Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) involving the fields of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, in addition to Korea and Japan in the future.
