20 RAMF Officers improve English competency at UMP

PAYA BESAR, 15 August 2022 - A total of 20 Royal Malaysian Air Force (RAMF) officers attended a training Let’s Fly High: Intermediate English for Officers (IEFO) which is implemented with the Centre for Modern Languages (CML) Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) to strengthen English which is synonymous with the language of exploration of various knowledge and is an international communication language.

The programme was inaugurated by the RAMF Assistant Chief of Staff Administration, Brigadier General Haji Baharudin Haji Abu Hassan.

Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, Dean of the Centre for Modern Languages, Associate Professor Dr. Nik Aloesnita Nik Mohd Alwi and RAMF Training Director, Colonel Mah Kok Leon.

According to Brigadier General Haji Baharudin, this programme is an initiative of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RAMF) to empower English proficiency among RAMF officials across the country.

“In addition to peacekeeping the Malaysian airspace, RAMF officers are also involved with military and peacekeeping training missions abroad.

“Therefore, English proficiency is crucial to enable them to have high skills to interact with military officers abroad.

“The training is attended by 20 RMAF officers from various areas such as Pilots, Air Traffic Officers, Air Defence Officers, Engineers and Governance Officers,” he said.

He expected all training participants to increase self-confidence when presenting and speaking in English.

“In addition, take this opportunity to assist participants in preparing reports, training and briefings at the strategic and technical operational levels,” he said.

Meanwhile, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim also expressed his gratitude for the trust of RAMF in choosing the Centre for Modern Languages (CML) UMP to handle language training.

“It is in line with the interest of the university to share expertise with the local community.

“Congratulations to RAMF who has always worked hard in providing better services to the country and hopefully this effort can inspire other agencies,” he said.

This training will be conducted for three months since July with the support of CML lecturers every Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Multimedia Language Laboratory in Block X, UMP Gambang Campus.
