UMP distributes korban meat for 109 recipients to observe Aidiladha

PEKAN, 22 July 2021 - The Islamic and Human Development Centre (PIMPIN) of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) recently organised the Ibadah Korban and Akikah programme by sacrificing five cows in UMP Pekan to enliven the Aidiladha atmosphere.

The programme was conducted in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) established to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Director of PIMPIN, Associate Professor Dr. Rashidi Abbas, expressed his gratitude because this year’s programme received participation from staff and was carried out with the help of ten crews.

“The distribution was given to 109 people consisting of those who are eligible, including staff from the security division, international students, landscaping staff and cleaning staff who are also villagers near the campus.

“Throughout the process, all crews are always reminded to comply with the SOPs.

“They are required to wear full personal protective clothing, face masks and plastic aprons,” he said.

He added that the process of carving the meat was done in an open place as a precaution in curbing the spread of COVID-19.

“Besides that, due to the limited task force, we always ensure that all staff consists of those who are skilled in performing slaughter and sacrificial ritual management.

“Also, the distribution uses the drive-through method or some representatives who have been appointed to take and distribute the meat to the recipients.

“This is to avoid congestion at the location of the korban activities,” he said. 

He also thanked all those involved in the success of the programme this year.

The programme is not only to attain the pleasure of Allah SWT but also to give joy to the less fortunate as well as instil a sense of love between the UMP residents and the local community.

According to one of the cleaning staff who received the korban meat, Nor Mazita Mohammad, 43, from Kampung Teratai, Kuala Pahang, she was very grateful to receive the korban meat as her family’s meal.

“This year, we only receive korban meat from UMP.

“Perhaps the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have reduced korban activities around my house,” said the mother of two children.
 
Representing her friends to receive the korban meat, she said that her colleagues were deeply touched and happy with the donation from UMP.

For her friend, Norehan Ali, 50, this year was her first year working as a cleaning staff at UMP.

She did not expect UMP was so concerned about the staff, especially the needy.

“Thank you, UMP, for the donation for our families in conjunction with the Aidiladha celebration this year,” she said.
