UMPSA strengthens collaboration with Cardiff Metropolitan University in Robotics and STEM Technology
PUTRAJAYA, 16 January 2024 - The collaboration between Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and Cardiff Metropolitan University (CMU) will focus on leveraging robotics technology and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education to enhance learning opportunities among students.
Present to exchange Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) documents were UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, and Director of Eureka Robotics, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Dr. Esyin Chew. The event was witnessed by the Chairman of the UMPSA Board of Directors, Dato' Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar, and East Asia Hub - Country Director Malaysia, Dr. Jazreel Goh. Also present was the STEM Coordinator of Cardiff Metropolitan University (CMU), Dr. Chow Siing Sia.
UMPSA has shared its expertise in robotics literacy internationally through the organization of the Robot Literacy Programme with the community in Wales, Cardiff, last year, which received cooperation from Cardiff Metropolitan University and the British Council.
This collaboration will also benefit from international collaboration, expertise sharing, and community service.
According to Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, this partnership was signed in response to the call of the Minister of Higher Education to make Malaysia a centre for the internationalization of higher education in the country and a talent development hub.
"The two institutions will collaborate through training and research, exchanging expertise in the use of robotic technology and STEM education, and providing access to quality education," he explained. He also received the robot that will be used in STEM empowerment programme activities with students and school teachers across the country.
He added that this collaboration also aims to inspire young people, particularly B40 students, and contribute to the development of a dual degree (PhD) programme in the field of robotics.
"In addition, UMPSA is committed to contributing expertise beyond the academic field, including contributions to society, particularly empowering women in STEAM-H and promoting media and information literacy," he said.
