8 UMP research products won medals in MTE 2021
PEKAN, 29 October 2021 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) continues to shine when eight research products won medals in the online Malaysian Technology Expo or MTE 2021: Sustainable Development Goals International Innovation Award (SDGIIA) recently.
UMP bagged four gold, two silver and two bronze medals at this event.
Physio-Treadmill (Phymill) for Cerebral Palsy Kids research by Ts. Dr. Mohd Azrul, not only won a gold medal but also received the Outstanding Innovation Award.
According to Ts. Dr. Mohd Azrul, PhyMill is an automatic exercise tool to train walking for paediatric patients who have problems controlling position and body activation due to damage to their developing brain or cerebral palsy.
“PhyMill has three main modes; the first mode controls the patient’s movements walking forwards and backwards.
“This mode can also help the therapist identify the patient’s walking speed.
“The second mode involves height control. Through this mode, patients can adjust the height of PhyMill at their convenience,” he said.
He said, the third mode is a special screen to catch the patients’ attention and to avoid boredom while undergoing a therapy session using PhyMill.
Also winning a gold medal and Outstanding Innovation Award was the research of Dr. Lee Chia Kuang, a senior lecturer from the Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI) with the title Accelerates Human Capital Development with E-GCPM Modular: Quality Project Management Education for All.
Meanwhile, the silver medals were won by lecturers from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI), Dr. Nazikussabah Zaharudin with her research entitled Glucofix: Brown Seaweed Effects on Glucose Liberation and Associate Professor Dr. Agus Geter Edy Sutjipto with a project entitled Competitive Advantage of Inert Ceramic Balls Manufactured from Malaysian.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering (FTKPM), Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Faiz Mohd Turan with his research entitled HUPDA (Humanistic Performance Design Assessment) won the bronze medal.
Two groups of UMP students won gold medals and special awards for two research projects.
Poulfit received the Malaysian Society of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MSMBB) special award.
It was the research output by Ali Zainal Abidin Mohamad Termizi, Muhammad Amirul Syafiq Nasarudin, Naagasurune a/p Arumugam and Muhamad Shahrul Faiz Mohd Nasir.
Meanwhile, Jauhar Straw project by Nurul Farah Anisa Hairolnizam, Muhammad Ezree Amree Amran, Nur Fariha Aqilah Amran, Muhammad Haziq Hamizat and Nur Ardini Balqis Mohd Zaini won the Taiwan International Invention Award.
The silver medal was won by Muhammad Amirul Syafiq Nasarudin with his project entitled Development of Capra hircus Feed by The Utilization of Solid Waste and Palm Oil Acid (POA) from Palm Oil Mill Effluent.
All the students’ research products were supervised by Dr. Abdul Syukor Abd Razak and Dr. Suryati Sulaiman.
Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainudin, who acts as the Vice-Chancellor of UMP, congratulated all UMP researchers who succeeded in making the university proud.
He hoped that this success will be an impetus for all researchers to remain active in research activities for the welfare of society and the country in line with the Strategic Planning Plan UMP 2021-2025 (UMP25) themed Technology for Society.
