UMP bags 19 gold medals conferred ITEX Golden Award
KUALA LUMPUR, 14 December 2021 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) won the ITEX Golden Award for winning 19 gold, nine silver, and two bronze medals in the International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2021 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
The award was presented by the President of the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), Tan Sri Augustine SH Ong to Professor Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin who performs the function of UMP Vice-Chancellor in conjunction with Malam Budaya Cipta 2021.
The gold medals were won by researchers from the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA), Ts. Norhaiza Ghazali with the project title Eco-Coal Crete: Waste-Less Earth, Lively Life, College of Engineering (KKEJ), Associate Professor Ts Dr. Devarajan Ramasamy with the study of Bio-Hybrid Engine Coolant, Centre for Human Sciences (PSK), Associate Professor Dr. Hasan Ahmad with the project title G-Gel (Halal Gelatin Alternative from Gallus gallus domesticus Produced by Lactic Acid Treatment Metho), and Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP), Dr. Suriyati Salleh with the project title Go Green with Co-Torrefied Oil Palm (Co-Top) Pellet.
A researcher from Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI), Dr. Diyana Kamarudin, was awarded the gold medal for the study of Hear Me: Assistive Technology for The Deaf and Hearing Impaired.
She designed Hear Me, an app as a teaching tool for teachers and students with hearing disabilities to learn Manually Coded Malay (BMKT).
A researcher from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, KKEJ, Ts. Dr. Mohd Azrul Hisham Mohd Adib also won a gold medal for the study titled Physio-Walker (Phywalk) for Cerebral Palsy Kids .
This invention helps children with disability to control their position and body activation due to damage to the developing brain or better known as cerebral palsy.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmad Irfan Akmal Hisham from PSK also won a gold medal through the research titled I-Mawaqit: Comparative Prayer Time Zone Calculator through the development of I-Mawaqit, a multipoint prayer time calculator.
Also awarded the gold medals were Associate Professor Dr. Ramadhansyah Putrajaya, Dr. Syifak Izhar Hisham, Dr. Rajaletchumy Veloo Kutty, Dr. Mohd. Suhardi Mat Jusoh, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Aishah Abu Bakar, Dr. Noor Suraya Romali, Associate Professor Ts. Ir. Dr. Kumaran Kadirgama, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Maksudur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Hafizi Zohari, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Abdulrahman Ahmed Alsewari, and Dr. Norida Ridzuan.
Meanwhile, according to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, ITEX is now shifting to a hybrid online and face-to-face exhibition model in this pandemic era.
“However, this situation is not an obstacle for researchers to display their research outcomes.
“I would like to express my appreciation to UMP researchers and please continue the efforts to generate impactful studies.
“Apart from ensuring quality research, UMP focuses on a group of innovative products that can benefit the world community,” he said.
In line with the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 themed ‘Technology for Society’, UMP is committed to encouraging product development creation and providing research involving the industry in the production of high-level technology that will contribute to the community through the social entrepreneurship ecosystem.
