UMP Students receive Excellence Prize from Chinese Ambassador
PEKAN, 4 January 2023 - A total of 47 students of the Dual Degree Programmes between Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Beijing Jiatong University (BJTU) China who will continue their studies at BJTU will receive the Ambassador of China’s excellence prize.
The selected students are from the UMP–BJTU Dual Degree Programme, UMP Foundation students with excellent results of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), students with excellent CGPA and involved in mobility programmes in China.
Present at the programme of Education Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia were Zhao Changtao and UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.
According to Zhao Changtao, they appreciated UMP’s commitment to making this collaboration programme a success and provided assistance for them as a token of appreciation.
“UMP is a well-known technical university in Malaysia and many engineers and technical talents have been made here.
“UMP has also established collaboration with many famous universities in China,” he said.
He said these dual degree programmes are a start of a new chapter for UMP and BJTU to strengthen strategic collaboration and open wider opportunities in the research and academic development of both universities.
Meanwhile, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie said that the growth of the manufacturing and industrial sectors in Malaysia today requires more experts and skills in various fields of technology.
“In fact, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is also seen as a boost to the national education system,” he said in the ceremony held at the Banquet Hall, Tun Abdul Razak Chancellery, UMP Pekan.
The university appreciated the support of the Chinese Ambassador in Malaysia who contributed RMB100,000.00 or RM65,000 to UMP students via collaboration with universities from China.
In addition, UMP is involved in many other collaborations with universities in China including dual degree programmes with Tianjin University (TJU) as well as collaborative programmes with Ningxia University (NXU) and Sichuan Aerospace Vocational College (SCAVC).
UMP has been appointed as the Focal University for the ECRL Industrial Skills Training Programme which is the leader of the ECRL Industrial Skills Training Programme as a result of negotiations between the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) and China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC) since 2017.
Also present were Zhang Tian, Attaché of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, Director of the Centre for Strategic Academic Collaboration (PKSA), Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Ruzaimi Mat Rejab and PKSA Deputy Director, Associate Professor Ir. Dr Chin Sim Yee.
