UMPSA celebrates outstanding athletes in the 2024 Athlete Appreciation Ceremony

PEKAN, 13 May 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) organised the 2024 UMPSA Athlete Appreciation Ceremony to celebrate the achievements and dedication of athletes who brought glory to the university throughout the past year.

The ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall, Tun Abdul Razak Chancellery, was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias.

Professor Dr. Yatimah expressed her pride in the outstanding accomplishments of 213 UMPSA athletes who participated in various tournaments at higher education institution (IPT) level competitions both nationally and internationally throughout 2024.

UMPSA secured 19 gold, 15 silver, and 26 bronze medals from a range of tournaments, including the Malaysian Silat Varsity International Championship (MASVIC), Varsity Track & Field (VTF), IPT Futsal League (LFIPT), SUKIPT, the 2nd Asian University Archery Championship, and the ASEAN University Games (AUG) in Surabaya, Indonesia.

As a token of appreciation, 13 athletes received individual incentives, while three teams were recognised for their remarkable achievements.

Professor Dr. Yatimah also urged all athletes to maintain their fighting spirit and strong commitment to elevate the university’s name even further.

“I hope that, with these proud achievements, our athletes will remain dedicated and continue to show a strong fighting spirit in giving their best, ultimately achieving our goals in future tournaments.

“Use the opportunity to represent the university with pride. Don’t just focus on performance as a representative of UMPSA—but more importantly, compete with integrity and raise the university’s name to be on par with other institutions,” she said.

She also extended her gratitude to the Sports Centre for its tireless efforts in providing the best services to support the progressive and excellent development of sports at UMPSA.

In addition, special recognition was given to the event secretariat, who worked diligently to ensure the smooth execution of the 2024 UMPSA Athlete Appreciation Ceremony.

The ceremony symbolised UMPSA’s unwavering support and recognition of sports excellence among students, as well as the university’s commitment to producing competitive athletes.
