UMPSA, Trash Hero Kuantan and Alam Flora managed to clean up 67.4 kg of garbage
KUANTAN, 25 November 2023 – Centre for Advanced Intelligent Materials, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), in collaboration with Trash Hero Kuantan and Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd. for the first time, managed to clear 67.4 kg of garbage in Pantai Pelindung, Beserah, through beach cleaning activities.
According to the Director of the Materials Centre, ChM. Dr. Izan Izwan, the programme was held to provide awareness to UMPSA students on the importance of maintaining beach cleanliness.
Meanwhile, according to the Joint Head, Trash Hero Kuantan, Annemarie Pravina Vendargon, this programme could provide awareness to the public about the importance of cleaning up waste from being left on the coast.
“The possibility of the waste entering the sea is very high and can threaten marine life.
“Waste that is often left in coastal areas is usually from sources of plastic materials that are difficult to decompose naturally,” she said.
Syarifah Syazrah Syed Ab Mutalib also led Trash Hero Kuantan to help coordinate the programme with Alam Flora.
The nearly two-hour programme was joined by undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology (FSTI).
Trash Hero and Alam Flora Berhad appreciated the willingness of the Materials Centre to organise this programme and hoped that such a programme could be continued in the future.
Emphasis on the awareness of the dangers of plastic waste left in coastal areas should be given to the younger and future generations to ensure that the sustainability of aquatic life is protected and guaranteed from extinction.
Also present were Operations Supervisor, Alam Flora, Mohd Afif Ahmad Fauzi and Muhammad Zulqarnain Mokhtar as well as SWCORP Enforcement Officer, Mohd Amirul Farhan Ab Ghani.
