Yayasan UMP call thought to be scammer

Kuantan, 26 October 2020 - “I thought it was a call from a scammer when I got a phone call from Yayasan UMP saying I was chosen to receive Yayasan UMP Matriculation Excellence Incentive.” This statement was expressed by the new Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) student, Fatin Ayu Kartika Mohd Suzaki, 20, who initially doubted the authenticity of the call she received from Yayasan UMP staff.
However, the presence of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Dato’ Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin as Yayasan UMP Vice President to deliver the letter and Matriculation Excellence Incentive surprised her whole family.
According to the Pahang Matriculation College alumnus who achieved a 3.96 CGPA, they were all astonished and instantly all doubt in their hearts was replaced with joy at the news.
“I would never have expected to be chosen to receive this assistance because for me, being able to pursue my programme of choice, Bachelor Of Manufacturing Engineering (Pharmaceutical) at UMP was enough.
“However, I’m grateful for this assistance, and I want to express my gratitude to Yayasan UMP that is concerned with the new students, even though I have not yet had the chance to enter the campus after registering online recently due to the directive from the ministry and the university due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
According to her, as of now, online learning has already begun, and she is already used to the new norm for teaching and learning (T&L).
Sharing her experiences in her study, Fatin Ayu believes the UMP lecturers have been very meticulous throughout the lecturing session.
Even so, learning face to face is more enjoyable, but in handling this outbreak faced by the country, she and other students are trying to adapt to online learning.
“It is undeniable that sometimes there may be internet connection problems during the learning sessions, but as the saying goes, nothing worth having comes easy.
“Therefore we should not give up in the pursuit of success,” she said.
Her father, Mohd Suzaki Ibrahim said his child had told him about the phone call informing her of being chosen to receive the Yayasan UMP assistance.
At first, he was taken by surprise by the offer but is very grateful for UMP’s commitments towards its students.
Meanwhile, Professor Dato’ Dr. Yuserrie explained that Yayasan UMP is always proactive in collecting funds to allow even more students in need to receive assistance.
Even now, they are still collecting funds from several sources, such as corporations and partners, including Bank Rakyat, alumni, and also the public.
For new students registering at UMP, Yayasan UMP has provided early education assistance which is the UMP Matriculation Excellence Incentive, Yayasan UMP Education Incentive and Yayasan Bank Rakyat Early Education Assistance with an amount of RM1,000 provided to each recipient.
Besides that, in encouraging excellence of students who received a benefit from Yayasan UMP, the Platinum Excellence Incentive was also introduced for students who achieved a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.50 and above in every semester with the amount of RM500 for each selected student.
