30 PPPH staff spruced up Rimba Lestari UMP
Pekan, 18 August 2020 - A total of 30 staff of the Center for Development and Property Management (PPPH), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) are actively preparing to spruce up Rimba Lestari in an effort to beautify the campus area and support the green campus sustainability program.
This cleaning and sprucing activity started two weeks ago involving the activity of providing directions, labelling tree names, and painting focal location as visitor’s attraction.
According to the Director of PPPH, Dr. Mohamad Idris Ali, Rimba Lestari which is a collaboration project between UMP and the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) is located between the buildings of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE), the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA) and the Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering Technology and Mechatronics (FTKPM).
"Rimba Lestari can provide an opportunity for UMP residents to jointly improve and cultivate campus sustainability practices," he said.
Also present were UMP Pro-Registrar, Abd Rahman Haji Safie and, JPPH Senior Engineer, Ts. Mohd. Nurulakla Mohd Azlan who is also the Energy Manager.
Meanwhile, according to Ts. Mohd. Nurulakla, there are 24 types of jungle trees and tropical timber trees planted which include Longjack, Meranti Tembaga, Cengal, Beruas, Ketapang, Jelutung, Simpoh Air, Meranti Rambai Daun, Sungkai, Pokok Peluru and many more.
"With the label on each tree allows visitors to know the name and type of tree planted here," he said.
In the meantime, to further invigorate the spirit of independence, UMP also organized the Sustainable Travel Program in conjunction with the celebration of the month of independence at the UMP level.
The program went en masse while waving a glorious band starting from Dataran Chancellery Tun Abdul Razak and across Rimba Lestari to Dusun U involving a total of 63 staff.
