4 UMPSA subjects listed among world’s best in THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026
PEKAN, 21 January 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its international standing as four fields of study have been listed in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, as recently announced by Times Higher Education.
The four listed subjects are Business and Economics ranked 301–400, Physical Sciences ranked 501–600, Computer Science ranked 601–800, and Engineering ranked 601–800.
This achievement reflects UMPSA’s capability in strengthening academic quality, high-impact research, and industry linkages in line with the university’s role as a leader in technology- and engineering-based higher education.
The success in Business and Economics is led by the Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI), while Computer Science is led by the Faculty of Computing (FK).
For Engineering, the achievement involves all Faculties of Engineering Technology at UMPSA, while Physical Sciences is represented by the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI) together with the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM).
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr.Yatimah Alias, said the achievement demonstrates the continuous efforts of the university community in strengthening a globally competitive academic and research ecosystem.
“This achievement reflects UMPSA’s continuous commitment to ensuring that the quality of teaching, research, and innovation remains at the highest level.
“This success is also the result of strategic collaboration between faculties, researchers, industry partners, and the strong support of the entire university community.
“The THE ranking, which takes into account indicators such as teaching, research, citations, industry income, and international outlook, serves as an important benchmark in assessing university performance at the global level,” she said.
She added that UMPSA will continue to strengthen its core fields, such as engineering, applied sciences, digital technology, and industrial management, to produce competent graduates who are competitive and ready to face future industry challenges.
“Furthermore, I am proud that UMPSA, under FPI, has successfully obtained international accreditation as a Lean Six Sigma Training and Certification Provider from The Council for Six Sigma Certification (CSSC) for the Yellow Belt programme as an institution that meets international standards in the delivery of Lean Six Sigma training, assessment, and certification.
“The achievement of this accreditation benefits students of the Bachelor of Industrial Technology Management programme who pass the special Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt examination, as they will be eligible to receive official certification from CSSC as an international professional certification that enhances their employability and global competitiveness,” she said.
She recorded her appreciation and congratulations to all faculties, responsibility centres, and the entire UMPSA community for this proud achievement, further strengthening the university’s reputation as a leading technical university in Malaysia and at the international level.
