Excited to celebrate independence, UMP contingent wins merdeka parade
PEKAN, 31 August 2022 – It was a proud moment when the contingent of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) comprising 32 staff was announced the winner of the Institute of Higher Education (IPT) category in the recent Pekan District 2022 National Day Parade competition.
The prize presentation ceremony was presented by the District Officer of Pekan, Dato’ Zaliza Zulkipli to the Registrar/Chief Operating Officer of UMP, Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim.
This victory enabled the UMP contingent led by the staff of Security Division, Hairulazam Haron to bring home prizes in the form of a certificate, trophy and cash.
Saiful Bahri congratulated all participants on their seriousness in making this programme successful, especially after two years of no National Day celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He hoped that the contribution of the staff and this effort could be continued in line with the interest to communitise the university.
Meanwhile the head of the contingent, Hairulazam said, he was grateful to all those involved especially the support of the university management in terms of preparing attires for the parade and others.
“I personally admit, the work constraints of each participating staff make it difficult to train more often.
“We only had time to train once during the rehearsal session.
“However, alhamdulillah, we managed to win this competition,” he said.
He said the sacrifice of the participants to get up early and make sure they could get to the square was worth it.
They were excited to participate in the parade and won.
The Pekan District-level Independence Day celebration was thronged by more than 1,000 visitors, most of whom were excited to witness the much-anticipated National Day of Malaysia celebrations on 31 August every year.
