MARS UMPSA recognises students and alumni leadership character
KUANTAN, 18 May 2024 - The Mercu Sanjung Award (MARS) Ceremony, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) recognises students who have shown holistic and competent leadership in line with strategic initiatives to produce holistic graduates.
The ceremony saw a total of 28 awards which included three main components, namely awards to students, alumni and industry.
In this ceremony, UMPSA student Agha Khilfi Suarno was named the recipient of the Mercu Sanjung Student Empowerment Special Award which is a special award to recognise students who have been able to uphold the student empowerment agenda at this university.
Meanwhile, Arshada Nadia Abdullah was named the recipient of the Student Exemplary Award and the Student Promising Figure Award was awarded to Fatin Nasuha Ahmad Puad.
Present to deliver the awards were the Chairman of the UMPSA Board of Directors, Dato’ Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar, UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed.
Also present at the ceremony were University Board Members (LPU), Datin Noorazah Omar, Madyasir Ahmad Basir and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman.
According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, this ceremony recognised students who contributed to the university via club or association.
“There are eight pillars of student activities, namely leadership, culture, sports, community service, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship and innovation and public speaking.
“This MARS organisation opens opportunities for students to compete healthily and be directly involved in self development activities at UMPSA to produce balanced people in the academic and co-curricular fields.
“It is the best platform to recognise and encourage students who have shown holistic and competent leadership in line with the Holistic Graduates strategic initiative which is one of the objectives in the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Alumni Icon was awarded to the alumnus of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (2006-2010) who is the General Manager of Permula Sdn. Bhd., Datuk Ts. Mohd Faiz Zulkifli.
This award is given to alumni who have contributed a lot and graduated more than ten years from UMPSA.
Meanwhile, the Inspiration Alumni Icon was awarded to the Managing Director of Murs Ventures Sdn. Bhd., Muhammad Redzuad Ras Abdul Rask who is an alumnus of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Automotive (2014-2018).
This award is given to alumni who have contributed to student development and become a driver for other alumni to continue to contribute to the university.
The Alumni Icon Most Promising Category was awarded to the Operations Officer of the Civil Defence Special Forces, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Lt. (PA) Kang Wei Xian.
He was involved in the search and rescue mission of the landslide tragedy in Batang Kali, the tragedy of the plane crash in Elmina Shah Alam and the earthquake in Turkiye.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA) was awarded the Faculty Graduate Employability Award.
The Best Student Resident Award was won by Student Resident 1; the Best Student Association was won by the Student Association of Anak Darul Takzim (Iskandar); and the Student Association Advisor Icon was won by Mohamed Jamaluddin Miskan from Iskandar.
There was also a release event of the Malaysia-China Advanced TVET Mobility Program (MYCHAT) involving 30 UMPSA and MTUN students focusing on student participation to undergo training in automotive engineering and electric vehicle (EV) technology at Beifang International Education China for ten days.
