UMP Gambang Campus closes temporarily from 13 to 26 November

PAYA BESAR, 13 November 2021 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has temporarily closed all its operations at UMP Gambang Campus to curb the spread of COVID-19, especially on the campus from 13 to 26 November 2021.

Following this announcement, all university staff at UMP Gambang Campus must work from home (WFH). This does not include the frontliners (health and non-health workers who manage COVID-19 containment and control) such as health, safety, enforcement, student affairs and campus maintenance.

However, staff attendance to the campus is only allowed for essential services and tasks that cannot be performed at home and require presence in the office.

The announcement issued by the Registry Department in compliance with the Administrative Circular No. 11/2021 Closure of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Gambang Campus Following the COVID-19 Outbreak only involves UMP Gambang Campus, and operations at UMP Pekan proceed as usual.

In line with this circular, the university management has decided to implement Enhanced Control and Embargo of Student Exit and Entry (KDLKMP) immediately at student residences. The entire UMP Gambang Campus area will be monitored and fully controlled by the UMP Security Division.

Professor Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, who performs the function of UMP Vice-Chancellor, said that every UMP resident must always adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure the safety and well-being of the campus community.

“Teaching and learning (T&L) sessions for students at home and for students with special needs (six categories) who are currently on campus will be held fully online,” he said while chairing the Student Management Task Force Committee Meeting No. 20/2021.

Meanwhile, research activities and the use of laboratories are also not allowed for all students except with special approval from the deans of the respective faculties.

Any changes to the implementation will be notified by the Academic & International Affairs Department and Research and Innovation Department from time to time.

However, essential services such as health, security, post/courier, supplies, food/cafeteria, and electrical, energy, water, cleaning, and critical repairs operate as usual according to the instructions of the respective heads of departments.

Professor Ts. Dr. Yuserrie advised students to always be aware of their health status and seek treatment and advice from staff at the University Health Center (PKU) when symptoms appear.

He hoped that parents and families would not be worried about their children’s condition on campus and the university always ensure that students adhere to the rules and guidelines as well as the SOPs.

As an additional control measure, the university has also decided that students are required to practice Test, Report, Inform, Isolate and Seek (TRIIS) to control and prevent infection and transmission of COVID-19 on campus.
