UMP launches alumni card as a token of gratitude

Gambang 19 October 2020 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) launched an alumni card for all its alumni by offering various benefits as a token of gratitude. 

With this card, alumni will receive the benefits and facilities of Touch & Go card, UMP Library services, discounts from the Office of SUARA UMP, KoopMart UMP, and Bangsawan Picture, and many more.

The alumni card’s launch was officiated by the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff, in the Tautan Kasih Alumni event at the Astaka Hall, UMP Gambang Campus recently.

Also present were the UMP Board Member, Dato’ Sri Md Sharif Shamsuddin, Chief Executive Officer of UMP Holdings Sdn. Bhd., who is also the President of the UMP Alumni Association, Syed Mohamad Hamzah Al-Junid, and the Manager of Koperasi UMP Berhad, Captain Fazil Hassan.

Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar congratulated the Alumni Relations Division, Student Affairs and Alumni Department, for organising the event for the first time to honour the alumni currently serving in UMP

He said, alumni are also one of the main segments that vitalises the ecosystem of a university.

“UMP greatly appreciates and recognises the special role and contribution of alumni in the context of UMP’s progress over the years,” he said.

During the 18 years of UMP establishment, the number of alumni until September 2020 is 27,073.

Ninety-eight per cent of them currently work in various sectors or pursue studies locally and abroad.

However, returning to its place, 139 (0.5%) of the total 27,073 alumni have chosen to serve UMP.

According to Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar, 89 are academic staff, 29 are in the Management and Professional Group, 21 are in the Executive and Support Group, 15 are working with UMP Holdings Sdn. Bhd. and three with UMP Advanced Education Sdn. Bhd.

“I believe UMP alumni can have a significant impact on the development, achievement, and progress of this university.

“Insya-Allah, one day UMP alumni will hold various important positions.

“However, what is more important is not the position or rank, but the role, service, and contribution given by the alumni in whatever capacity either formally or voluntarily.

“In line with the implementation of the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025, appropriate measures should be given heavy emphasis.

“The university has also set a vision for UMP to emerge as a leading technology university by 2050,” he said.

According to one of the UMP alumni who is currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA), Dr. Noor Intan Shafinas Muhammad, she was a graduate of the Master of Chemical Engineering in 2012. She continued her PhD at Iowa State University, USA.

She really appreciated UMP’s efforts to gather UMP alumni and hoped that this programme can be continued in the future.

“Feedback from the alumni who become staff, especially from the postgraduate level, can be used to improve the teaching and learning (T&L) activities,” she said.

Besides that, she also felt delighted to contribute to the UMP new generation.
