UMP is on the right track to producing competent graduates
PEKAN, 3 July 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) is on track to produce TVET graduates capable of contributing to national development.
The Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who was present with the Ministry of Higher Education delegation during a working visit to the university campus in Pekan, said UMP had taken the lead and planned to increase the percentage of students attending TVET.
He suggested that the number of students be increased in various ways including opening branches in Sabah and Sarawak.
“To ensure that its graduates have high employability, UMP is also advised to double its efforts by collaborating with the industry.
“The existence of UMP Bosch Rexroth Academy as a training centre for IR4.0 certification programme will benefit students in industrial automation, control and drive in the context of IR4.0,” he said.
He was satisfied with the university’s achievements and the employability rate of UMP graduates at 98.67% who found employment within a few months of graduating.
He added that 20% of UMP graduates earned salaries above RM3,000 due to good and close relations with the industry.
Also of note is UMP’s initiative to implement a sustainable campus and digital transformation towards a smart campus to remain relevant to the current needs and expectations of stakeholders.
Also present to greet the delegation were the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin and university management.
Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled also had the opportunity to visit an impactful research exhibition and knowledge transfer project that took place in the lobby of Tun Abdul Razak Chancellery (CTAR).
Among the products on display were E-Nose Technology and a new formulation of organic fertiliser liquid products with prebiotics called Pre-Pecto which has been adopted by Agrico for use in greenhouses in Qatar.
Other products were Agronetics, Smart Agritech Solution, Sleekpump, Development of Biodegradable Grease for food Grade Application, and Mushrooms Cultivation Using Pineapple Waste.
UMP also held an exhibition on the OKU Friendly Society Ecosystem and INCLUSIVE (DAMAi) and facilities for students with needs.
Also present were the Deputy Secretary General (Policy), MOHE, Dato’ Dr. Haji Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian, Director General of Higher Education, Professor Dr. Azlinda Azman, Director of Holistic Student Division, Hirman Awang@Semail and Director of Industry and Community Collaboration Division, Dato’ Mohd Sharil Abdullah.
