UMPSA expands cooperation with Libya through partnerships with LYAPS and LASR
KUALA LUMPUR, 7 May 2024 — In a strategic move to expand its global academic and research network, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) participated in a meeting with representatives from the Libyan Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR).
Held at the Office of the Libyan Academic Attaché in Kuala Lumpur, the session highlighted UMPSA's commitment to broadening its international alliances.
The meeting began with an extensive presentation about UMPSA by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin emphasised the importance of the meeting, stating, “Today marks a crucial juncture in UMPSA’s efforts to strengthen its international footprint and academic connections.
“We are looking forward to exploring the opportunities this partnership offers with our Libyan counterparts,” he said.
President of the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies (LYAPS), Professor Dr. Ramadan A. Al-Madani presented potential collaborative projects, emphasising joint research and academic exchanges that could benefit both institutions.
Further discussions, led by Director of the APEL Assessment Centre, Dr. Nor Alisa Mohd Damanhuri, focused on the A.PEL A programme, reaffirming UMPSA’s dedication to international academic engagement.
The session concluded with the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to reinforce future collaborations.
The ceremony was presided over by Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin and President of the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research (LASR), Dr. Faisal A Mohamed Elabdli.
The LOI outlines the shared objectives of UMPSA, LYAPS, and LASR to enhance their collaborative efforts.
The session also featured Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, Director of the Centre for International Relations, Associate Professor Dr.-Ing. Mohd Azmir Mohd Azhari, Acting Chief Executive Officer of UMP Advanced, Dr. Ahmad Johari Mohamad , Acting Manager of the Department of Academic and International Affairs, Azrizulazmi Bustan, Consultant to the President of LYAPS, Dr. Mustafa Abdulsalam Mohammed Alkhammas, Academic Attaché of the Embassy of Libya in Malaysia, Dr. Aiman Elmahmodi, and Advisor to the Academic Attaché of the Embassy of Libya in Malaysia, Norhawaty Mansor.
This initiative marks the start of a promising collaboration, set to deliver significant benefits to both UMPSA and Libyan academic institutions in the coming years.
