UMPSA receives a visit from the President of the Malaysian Board of Technologists

GAMBANG, 27 October 27 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) received a delegation visit from the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) led by its President, Datuk Ts. Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir, FASc.

The delegation was welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology, Associate Professor Dr. Sumaiya Zainab, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE), Associate  Professor Dr. Hamdan Daniyal, and the Director of the Centre for Academic Innovation & Competetiveness (CAIC), Dr. Noram Irwan Ramli.

Also present were MBOT Registrar, Dr. Md Fauzi Md Ismail, Director of the Technology and Technical Accreditation Secretariat (TTAS), Dr. Nor Aznan Mohd Nor, and Assistant Director of TTAS, Nur Sakinah Ishak.

MBOT is a professional body established under Act 768, with the role of recognizing Technologists and Technicians as professionals. 

According to Datuk Ts. Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah, MBOT plays a role in enhancing the skilled workforce needed to achieve a high-income economy and to protect public safety and health.

"MBOT is very grateful for the commitment of UMPSA and partner universities in the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) since the establishment of MBOT. 

“At MBOT, we act as the Secretariat. 

“Therefore, we actively engage in strategic partnerships with stakeholders and related industry players from inside and outside the country who will act as advisors to supervise their respective Technology and Technical fields recognized by MBOT," she said.

Meanwhile, according to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, UMPSA, as one of the universities in MTUN which offers Bachelor of Technology (BTEC) programmes designed to provide a higher education pathway for graduates of TVET institutions such as Vocational Colleges and Skills Training Institutes.

"Until now, UMPSA has 23 registered programmes with MBOT, with a total of 3,754 students enrolled in degree and diploma programmes," he said.

Group registration was also discussed as Technologists with Degrees and Qualified Technicians for graduates from MBOT-accredited programmes and accreditation programmes related to technology and technical programmes that have not yet been accredited by TTAC MBOT.

Other topics included industry involvement in Work-Based Learning, an approach that integrates learning at the university with industry learning to create an integrated experience (theory and practical) for students.
