BELAGA, 17 August 2024 – The Closing Ceremony of the Kembara Prihatin@Bumi Kenyalang 2.0 concluded with much excitement, as participants waved the Jalur Gemilang, enhancing the spirit of the National Month and Malaysia Day.
The event took place at Uma Ukit, Sarawak, in celebration of unity and national pride.
The ceremony was officiated by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Dato' Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar.
According to Dato' Seri Abdul Razak, the Kembara Prihatin@Bumi Kenyalang 2.0 Camp, organized by the UMPSA Foundation in collaboration with the MARA Skills Institute (IKM) Bintulu, successfully promoted the concept of #KeluargaMalaysia harmony.
Forty volunteers participated in community service with the Ukit minority community at Rumah Panjang Uma Ukit, Sungai Asap, which was uniquely adorned with rattan decorations along the 79-house longhouse.
"Among the activities held were community service, educational promotion, the development of a modern agricultural project using a hydroponic system powered by solar energy, the installation of solar lights, cultural activities, local sports, and motivational programmes.
"This programme is also a testament to UMPSA’s commitment to spreading technology and empowering communities in line with our slogan 'Technology for Society' and the spirit of 'Choose to Share.'
"Since the Kembara Prihatin Programme was introduced, UMPSA has travelled to various parts of the country, from the fertile valleys of Kapit, Sarawak, to the beautiful beaches of Semporna, Sabah.
"Previously, the Kembara Prihatin Programme was also conducted at Pos Telanok, Cameron Highlands, together with the Orang Asli community, which has its own unique culture," he added.
He congratulated all of the partners who collaborated in making the programme a success.
At Uma Ukit, the programme involved various activities aimed at assisting and alleviating the burden of the local community through technological innovation, community outreach, education, spirituality, and aid.
"This programme has had a significant impact on the daily lives of residents in this area," he remarked.
During the ceremony, Dato' Seri Abdul Razak also presented donations from the UMPSA Foundation to families and school students in need, co-sponsored by the Prihatin Foundation.
In addition, the volunteers had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the life of their adoptive families at Rumah Panjang Ukit through activities such as gardening, fishing in the river, and learning the art of handicrafts made by the Ukit people.
These activities not only strengthened relationships but also provided the volunteers with a deep, hands-on experience of the culture and daily life of the Ukit people.
Also present at the ceremony were the Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Prihatin, Dato' Mohd Aizuddin Mohd Ghazali, the Head of Uma Ukit Village, Tuan Ngarit Lijap, and the Senior Administrative Officer of Belaga District, Caroline, daughter of the Honorable Dato' Sri John Sikie Tayai.
