WSCC Series 2022 gathers experts in wind engineering and earthquake
KUALA LUMPUR, 14 October 2022 – The World Sustainable Construction Conference Series 2022 (WSCC Series 2022) successfully brought together experts and researchers in the fields of wind engineering, earthquakes, advanced materials and construction engineering to share information and related research findings in the programme held at Novotel Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
More than 100 participants among academicians and researchers from local and international institutions of higher learning (IPT) attended the conference organised by the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA) which was held in a hybrid and online Zoom mode, including related experts from India, Indonesia and China.
The UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, who officiated the conference, said the Building Resilience-themed programme means building resilience to meet various challenges, especially disasters such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and others.
“In line with the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals 17 (SDG17), the conference also discussed what is geared towards SDG11-Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG13-Climate Action,” he said.
Meanwhile, the conference chairman, Associate Professor Dr. Mohamad Idris Ali said this sixth conference was in conjunction with the UMP 20th anniversary celebration this year.
“The number of participants also increased with participation from local authorities such as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Malaysian Meteorological Department,” he said.
For publication, FTKA successfully submitted 33 articles in Key Engineering Materials with Scopus Index Q4, 35 articles in IOP Earth and Environmental Sciences with Scopus Index, and two articles in Construction.
WSCC2022 combines several other conferences, including the Sixth National Conference on Wind and Earthquake Engineering, Fourth International Seminar of Sustainable Construction Engineering, Fourth International Conference on Agricultural Technology and Engineering and Environmental Sciences and Second Water Symposium.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with strategic partners, namely Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Beijing Jiatong University, Universitas Syiah Kuala Aceh, Universitas Muhammadiyah Aceh and Universitas Brawijaya Indonesia.
Also held was a forum to share the current status of weather observation technology and information delivery methods in addressing potential disasters presented by the Director General, Department of Meteorology Malaysia, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah.
The forum also shared and discussed disaster preparedness and post-disaster recovery presented by the Director, Disaster Preparedness & Prevention Centre, MJIIT, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Dr. Khamarrul Azahari Razak.
