‘Jom Masuk U’ Opportunities for students to choose IHLs for career prospects
JOHOR BAHRU, 21 May, 2023 - The coordination of the ‘Jom Masuk U’ (JMU) program held at six locations according to zones serves as a centralized hub to obtain various information for pursuing studies at the highest level.
The JMU program targets secondary school students, diploma holders and equivalents, parents, teachers, and the local community to seize opportunities for pursuing higher education in various institutions of higher learning (IHL).
The six locations are in the Southern Zone - Arena Larkin Indoor Stadium (20 and 21 May 2023), Sarawak Zone - Times Square Megamall (20 and 21 May 2023), Sabah Zone - Second Lecture Hall Complex (27 and 28 May 2023), Northern Zone - Dwwab Perdana UiTM Kedah Branch (27 and 28 May 2023), Eastern Zone - Sultan Mizan Hall UMT (3 and 4 June 2023), and Central Zone - Tunku Chancellor Hall, Universiti Malaya (4 and 5 June 2023).
According to the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Dato’ Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar, the public is encouraged not to miss the opportunity to visit this program as it is the main channel for disseminating information about higher education opportunities within the country.
“This carnival also provides information to prospective students regarding admissions to various institutions of higher learning (IHL) nationwide for the 2023 intake session, information on academic programs offered by 20 Public Universities (‘UA’), private institutions of higher learning (‘IPTS’), Polytechnics, Community Colleges, Public Skills Training Institutions (‘ILKA’), and other institutions.
“Students can also directly meet representatives from universities and colleges during the exhibition to obtain information on continuing their studies, available educational financing, application policies and procedures through online applications, and the required eligibility criterias,” he said during his speech at the JMU Southern Zone in the Arena Larkin Indoor Stadium.
Also present at the Launch Ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the Official Representative of the UTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Shamsul Sahibuddin, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman.
The coordination of the ‘Jom Masuk U’ program, provides opportunities for secondary school students, diploma holders and equivalents, parents, teachers, and the local community to seize opportunities for pursuing higher education in various institutions of higher learning in the country.
Furthermore, he said, as an early preparation and focusing on students inclined towards Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) fields for pursuing their studies in Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) universities, there are also new programs that will be introduced in Polytechnics for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)/Equivalent graduates, namely the TVET Foundation Program Intake Session I, 2023/2024.
“As a start, five polytechnics will pioneer the first intake for Session I, 2023/2024 with 500 students as the first group, involving Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Polytechnic, Tun Syed Nasir Syed Ismail Polytechnic, Merlimau Polytechnic, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic, and Ungku Omar Polytechnic,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad, this program provides an opportunity for their institution to disseminate information about higher education opportunities in the country, including offers for undergraduate, postgraduate, lifelong learning, and massive open online courses (MOOCs).
“As one of the universities in MTUN, UMP also provides opportunities for parents and students to learn about UMP's engineering technology programs and related fields in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which can provide higher job opportunities in the market towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) era,” he said.
In addition, UMP also offers dual degree programs in collaboration with Beijing Jiatong University (BJTU), China, in the fields of Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, which will contribute to the development of the country’s rail industry.
Prospective students can take the opportunity to apply for UMP’s cooperation program with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), Germany, for Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics with Honours, Bachelor of Engineering in Automotive with Honours, and Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical (Electronics) with Honours.
Furthermore, the cooperation program between UMP and Mannheim University of Applied Sciences (HMA), Germany, offers a Bachelor of Business Engineering with Honours. The cooperation program between UMP and Tianjin University (TJU), China, offers a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with Honours, and the cooperation program between UMP and Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KAZNARU), Kazakhstan, offers a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Honours) in Biotechnology with Industry.
UMP also offers the TVET Foundation Program to broaden access for SPM graduates who meet the specified requirements to participate in preparatory program before continuing their studies at the Bachelor’s degree level, particularly in Engineering Technology.
There are 64 booths among the exhibitors from Public Universities (‘UA’) and private institutions of higher learning (‘IPTS’), Polytechnics, Community Colleges, Public Skills Training Institutions (‘ILKA’), and other institutions providing information to prospective students regarding admissions to various institutions of higher learning (IHLs) nationwide for the 2023 intake session, information on academic program offerings, eligibility checks, and academic counselling.
