UMPSA receives visit from Yunnan Technician College China, explores opportunities for strategic collaboration

PEKAN, 18 November 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) today received a visit from a delegation from Yunnan Technician College (Yunan Industry & Trade Vocational College), China, to discuss various potentials for strategic collaboration encompassing academics, research, TVET education, and international mobility.

This visit also strengthens bilateral relations in the field of TVET education, as Yunnan Technician College is among the leading TVET institutions in China, and its students have achieved international success, including in the World Skills Competition (WSC), which is the world’s highest-level skills competition recognising highly skilled youth.

The arrival of the Yunnan Technician College delegation, led by its president, Zhang Zebin, was welcomed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Dato’ Ir. Ts. Dr Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman.

Also accompanying the delegation were the Director of Infrastructure and Logistics, Wang Jianbo, the Head of the School of Engineering and Information Technology, Zi Faguo, and Senior Lecturer, Li Yu.

According to Professor Dato’ Ir. Ts. Dr Ahmad Ziad, this meeting provides opportunities for both parties to collaborate in short- and long-term student exchange programmes, lecturer mobility, technical trainer mobility, as well as professional development programmes for staff.

“Also discussed were opportunities for pathways to continue studies at the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels for students and instructors, particularly diploma graduates and those from dual diploma collaborative programmes,” he said.

Several technical fields were identified, including computational data analytics and data science, robotics and automation, information technology, and engineering.

Other offerings include short courses, technical training, and research on TVET innovation development.

He stated that this initiative aligns with UMPSA’s aspiration to realise the UMPSA Internationalisation Agenda as the ASEAN Advanced TVET Hub.

Also present at the programme were the Director of the Advanced TVET Centre, Associate Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Mohd Shahrir Mohd Sani; the Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation (Research Management and Innovation), Research and Innovation Department, Professor Dr Mohd Hasbi Ab Rahim; the Director of the Global Networking Centre, Associate Professor Ts. Dr Herma Dina Setiabudi; and the Director of the Centre for Innovation & Knowledge Base of Building Information Modelling, Associate Professor Dr Ahmad Tarmizi Haron.

This collaboration is expected to benefit both institutions through strengthened capabilities in academics, research, and the development of highly skilled human capital.
