UMPSA’s BVI and BVE graduates are in high demand by the Automotive and Electronics Industries

PUTRAJAYA, 25 August 2024 – Graduates from the Bachelor of Industrial Electronics Automation Technology (BVI) and Bachelor of Electrical System Maintenance Technology (BVE) programmes, offered by the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE) at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), have become highly sought after by the automotive and electronics industries.

These graduates have successfully secured employment shortly after completing their studies at UMPSA.

According to the Dean of FTKEE, Professor Ts. Dr. Hamdan Daniyal, the first cohort of graduates from these programmes has achieved significant success in their careers and found positions within the industry.

“These students have provided positive feedback, as they have been able to apply the knowledge gained during their studies to their careers.  

“I am truly moved and proud of this success for the university in producing graduates from the Work-Based Learning (WBL) programme, a method designed to ensure students gain mastery of academic content through workplace activities and industrial training,” he said.

He further explained that the BVI and BVE programmes, which incorporate the Work-Based Learning (WBL) approach, were introduced by FTKEE to provide pathways for graduates of the Malaysian Vocational Diploma (DVM) and the Malaysian Skills Diploma (DKM) to pursue their undergraduate studies.

“This programme allows students to complete their three-year degree by spending two years on campus and one year in the WBL programme. 

“I hope more students will take part in this programme,” he added.

Meanwhile, Director of Fester Automation Sdn. Bhd., Saiful Nizam Samat, praised the programme for providing students with a strong foundation in both knowledge and skills before they enter the workforce.

“Our company accepted two students from this programme during their WBL period. 

“During this time, these students not only learned theoretical concepts but were also able to apply them practically in the workplace. 

“This provided a solid foundation of knowledge and experience for the students before they officially started working, giving them real-world exposure during the WBL period,” he said.

Managing Director of KLUG Energy Sdn. Bhd., Ir. Ts. Nor Azman Mohd Ruah, commended the programme for its role in developing skilled technologists and offering a pathway for technically inclined students to enter the engineering field.

“There is a noticeable difference in students graduating from this programme—they are better prepared for the workforce, equipped not only with strong theoretical knowledge but also with entrepreneurship and problem-solving skills. 

“I hope this programme will continue and be introduced to Malaysian Skills Diploma students who may not be aware of the opportunity to further their education. 

“UMPSA is providing an excellent opportunity for these students to continue their studies,” he said.

He added that the industry is eagerly anticipating more graduates from this programme to help elevate the nation's industrial sector.

“Our company is open to accepting more students from this programme for WBL, and we are committed to training them as thoroughly as possible,” he said.

Similarly, Managing Director of MIWA Industries Sdn. Bhd., Ts. Eizuddin Nawawi expressed his hope that the programme will continue, as technological advancements require highly skilled experts like the graduates of this programme to keep the industry competitive.

“These graduates meet the basic criteria to become technologists in their respective fields, and UMPSA has successfully produced highly skilled individuals who are in demand by industry players. 

“Their expertise will help advance the industry to a higher level, especially since our country is in dire need of skilled technologists,” he added. 

Recently, FTKEE hosted a dinner and engagement session with the first cohort of 33 alumni from these programmes, along with industry representatives, at a ceremony held at Dorsett Putrajaya.

The event was attended by Director of the Centre of Alumni Relations, Ts. Dr. Azri Alias; Head of the BVI Programme, Ts. Dr. Raja Mohd Taufika Raja Ismail; Head of the BVE Programme, Ts. Dr. Rosmadi Abdullah  and FTKEE lecturers.
