Collaboration of UMP-UTHM Volunteers UMP Kilau to help flood victims in Batu Pahat
BATU PAHAT, 20 March 2023 - A total of 100 UMP Kilau volunteers consisting of students and staff of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Prihatin Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) volunteers mobilised the Johor 2023 Post-Flood Relief Mission in Batu Pahat recently.
Volunteers at UTHM were welcomed by its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dato’ Sri Ibrahim Ahmad.
Also present were the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed who performs the functions of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International).
According to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz, following the meaning of KILAU, namely Creative (Kreatif, K), Innovative (Inovatif, I), Sustainable (Lestari, L), Aggressive (Agresif, A) and Universal (Universal, U), KILAU volunteers actively carry out volunteer missions including post-flood activities.
“This collaboration is very meaningful with our concern to help and deliver donations and clean their homes even though there are several locations that are still flooded,” he said.
Since the disaster struck, UMP mobilised the Flood Volunteer Mission by distributing UMP Foundation contributions in Kampung Teluk Hutan Lesung Tanjung Sedili Kota Tinggi, Sekolah Kebangsaan Laksamana and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina New Kota, Kota Tinggi, Kampung Alai Mukim Gemereh Segamat and Sekolah Kebangsaan Denai, Rompin.
Meanwhile, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz also handed over 2,000 Yayasan UMP donations in the form of Ready to Eat food package prepared through retort technology under the food@campus (UMP Campus Pantry) initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) which was distributed to help flood victims around Batu Pahat.
Also receiving assistance were the flood victims consisting of UTHM staff and UMP students living in Batu Pahat.
In the meantime, 200 UMP-KPT Bakul Rahmah were distributed to the residents to ease their burden.
UMP and UTHM volunteers also carried out clean-up work at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Gading which was affected by the floods.
