TVET UNiTY programme helps Parit Sulong community
PARIT SULONG, 30 October 2022 - The organisation of TVET UNiTY@Parit Sulong Programme has successfully helped the community through technical expertise sharing in engineering, research service and social science in improving their well-being and socioeconomic status.
TVET UNiTY is one of the initiatives under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in collaboration with the Malaysian Technological University Network (MTUN) and the Department of Polytechnic Education and Community Colleges (JPPKK).
It aims to share and transfer technologies and knowledge that can benefit local communities by implementing community activities based on TVET HEI fields such as civil, electricity, automotive and air conditioning.
According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, the programme was implemented at three localities of Parit Sulong, namely Parit Abdul Rahman, Parit Jayus and Kampung Separap.
“The programme, coordinated by the Industry and Community Collaboration Division (BKIM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), involved the participation of a group of UMP Kilau volunteers consisting of Bachelor of Electrical Systems Maintenance Technology (BVE) students, staff from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE) and the Centre for Property Management and Development (PPPH).
“UMP volunteer groups were divided by locality and they carried out wiring inspection work and minor repairs covering mosques, police stations and homes of local residents.
“This programme also aligns with UMP’s slogan of ‘Technology for Society’ and also encourages collaborative activities, expert services as well as research and innovation in line with the aspirations of the MOHE to promote TVET,” he said.
The UNiTY programme also focuses on the expertise or thrust areas of the Higher Education Institute (HEI) to be utilised by the local community based on the social innovation approach and TVET UNITY@Parit Sulong which targets technical assistance to B40 residents and disaster victims around DUN Semerah, DUN Sri Medan and Kampung Bintang, Peserai involving three phases for September 2022.
Also present were the Director of the Industry and Community Collaboration Division (BKIM) of MOHE, Dato’ Mohd Shahril Abdullah and the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of TVET UMP, Professor Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim.
