Nor Afifah, daughter of UMP professor, receives Vice-Chancellor Award

PAYA BESAR, August 6, 2022 - The daughter of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) lecturer, Professor Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim, Nor Afifah Abdullah, 24, received the Vice-Chancellor Award at the UMP 16th Convocation Ceremony which took place at the UMP Sports Complex, Gambang Campus.

Graduand of Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Energy & Environmental) with Honours received the award from the UMP Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor in the first session.

Her mother, Rohani Ibrahim, a housewife, becomes an important figure who always cares for her and her beloved family’s needs.

Nor Afifah, the youngest of two siblings, was active in the university.

One of the biggest successes she could not forget was when she obtained a gold medal in the Creation, Innovation, Technology & Research Exposition (CITREx) 2021 and Best Invention in Fluids Award CITREx 2021 for the project titled Platinum Titanium Nanotube for Conversion of CO2 to CH4.

It was one of her biggest successes in the evaluation of the final year project undertaken when the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She was also active in the faculty club PROTECH.

In addition, she was also appointed as Assistant Director for FTeK Final Year Project Poster Exhibition.

Apart from Malay, she is also fluent in English and Mandarin.

Not only did she succeed in her study, but she was also an active student at the university by participating in various co-curricular activities including cultural performances and engaging with activities from faculty clubs.

She put herself forward as a leader when she took the position of Vice Chairman of UMP Dance Group (Kencana Pawana).

She said that performing at the official UMP opening ceremony with the Acting Sultan of Pahang was an interesting, unforgettable experience.

“My friends and I also had opening performances for official UMP events,” she said.

She also participated internationally by representing the Malaysian Technical Universities Network (MTUN) student group in the CSR MTUN Benevolence Assistance Malaysia-Thailand.

In addition, she participated in activities with the community such as the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), Sekolah Kebangsaan Serandu, Pekan and Social Welfare Department.

While studying at UMP, she did not feel any difficulties because UMP had complete facilities to gain knowledge, including a very conducive and peaceful campus environment.

According to her, the completeness of facilities in research laboratories provides opportunities and space for students to conduct self-research more efficiently.

“UMP also provides various recreational spaces on both campuses in Gambang and Pekan to meet the physical needs of students.

“The biggest contributor to my success today is my beloved family who supported me throughout my study at UMP.

“I would also like to thank all the teaching staff who tirelessly taught, educated and encouraged me throughout my time at UMP.

“Not forgotten the UMP teaching staff who were indirectly involved in the success of events and programmes that I managed,” she said.

She thought that involvement in programmes organised by the university could provide an opportunity to hone values and hidden talents in students.

It is another proud moment when she is currently engaged in solar field, the continuance of the six-month industrial training programme at ERSs Energy Sdn. Bhd. at the final semester.

Upon completing industrial training, she was offered work in the same company as a Quality Assurance or Quality Control Engineer (QA/QC).

ERS Energy is a company focusing on engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning with over ten years of experience in the solar field in Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore since 2009.

The concept of the solar energy system is not foreign to her because she had been exposed to the system during her study at UMP.

She hoped to continue to be committed and proactive by spreading her wings in Malaysia’s fast-growing solar and renewable energy industries.

As an engineer capable of delivering excellent work even under pressure, she dreamed of industrial development and the progressive improvement of environmental systems in this globalisation era.
