3 UMPSA start-up companies ready to penetrate globally competitive technology markets

GAMBANG, 12 October 2025 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues its proactive efforts in the commercialisation of university research outputs through the Technology Licensing Agreement Document Exchange Ceremony with three university start-up companies, namely MNR Multitech Sdn. Bhd., Edgify Solutions Sdn. Bhd., and TML Lab Sdn. Bhd.

The technologies licensed were ‘A Method of Producing a Food Grade Grease Composition’ by Ts. Mohd Najib Razali from MNR Multitech Sdn. Bhd.; ‘Elephant Intrusion Detector System Using Artificial Intelligence (GajahSafe)’ by Ts. Dr. Syafiq Fauzi Kamarulzaman from Edgify Solutions Sdn. Bhd.; and ‘Codes to Detect Pathogenic Bacteria from Whole-Genome Data’ by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Hajar Fauzan Ahmad from TML Lab Sdn. Bhd.

Through the implementation of this agreement, UMPSA officially approved the licensing of three patented and registered university intellectual properties to the respective start-up companies for commercialisation purposes.

This step not only protects the university’s intellectual property rights but also provides flexibility to UMPSA start-up companies to expand their technology-based products more competitively and sustainably.

According to UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, this technology licensing demonstrates the university’s ability to translate research outcomes into tangible value that benefits society and industry.

“UMPSA believes that effective research outputs are those that can bring benefits to humanity and the environment.

“University innovations must be brought out of the laboratory to solve real problems faced by society and industry.

“This licensing process grants exclusive rights to companies to use, produce, market, and commercialise university technologies in both local and international markets,” she added.

She attended the Closing Ceremony of Festival Idea@Pahang at UMPSA, officiated by the Pahang State Executive Councillor for Investment, Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Mohamad Nizar Dato’ Sri Mohamad Najib.

Professor Dr. Yatimah also exchanged technology licensing documents involving three patented or registered university intellectual properties with the start-up companies for commercialisation purposes.

Also present were the Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) (Research and Innovation Management), Professor Dr. Mohd Hasbi Ab Rahim, who is performing the duties of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation); and Head of Strategic Management Section, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Mujahidah Khairun Nisak Rosli.

Festival Idea@Pahang, which took place over two days from 11 to 12 October, was also enlivened by various events, including the AI Generation Festival (AiGenFest), Commercialisation Day, Advanced TVET Exhibition, and UMPSA Faculty and Laboratory Open Day.

This high-impact programme serves as a synergistic platform between academia, industry, government, and the community to strengthen the innovation ecosystem and produce more competitive local technology entrepreneurs.
