40 UMP students recognised for Mercu Sanjung Award
KUANTAN, 15 March 2023 - A total of 40 Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) students won the Mercu Sanjung Award (MARS) in the Mercu Sanjung Award (MARS) Ceremony in recognition of their success in the aspects of leadership, sports, culture, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, public speaking, innovation and others through their involvement in self-development activities.
The Chairman of the Board of UMP, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman was present to officiate the ceremony which was also attended by UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed who performs the functions of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), members of board of directors and management.
According to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz, the ceremony was the best platform to recognise and encourage students who have shown holistic and competent leadership in line with the Holistic Graduates strategic initiative which is one of the objectives in the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025.
“This MARS organisation opens opportunities for students to compete healthily and be directly involved in self-development activities at UMP to produce balanced people in the academic and co-curricular fields.
“In addition, UMP places emphasis on producing holistic graduates who are balanced in terms of physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social.
“This will also provide encouragement, motivation and opportunities for students to further highlight their potential and develop their talents to become excellent people to their families and communities,” he said.
During the ceremony, UMP also received a RM10,000 Student Empowerment Grant donation from UMP alumnus Muhammad Redzuad Ras Abdul Rask, Managing Director of Murs Ventures Sdn. Bhd. as an initiative to mobilise student activities to implement impactful programmes.
The ceremony saw the 2022 Mercu Sanjung Figure Award won by Mohamad Mohsin Ismail from the Faculty of Computing who excelled in entrepreneurial activities by producing the E-Wallet Mobile Application.
The Mercu Sanjung Special Award was won by Farah Ezati Saindi from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology.
She is also a recipient of Yayasan UMP and won a gold medal in CITREx 2022, a gold medal in the 7th International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada 2022 and the Korea University Invention Association (KUIA) Special Award.
Meanwhile, the ADAB Special Award was won by Muhammad Amirul Aiman Hairul Nizam from the Faculty of Industrial Management who had represented Asean University Game (AUG) 2022 in Udon Ratchatthani through futsal.
Other awards include the Mercu Sanjung Award (Ulul Albab), given to Anang Rustanto Suwito and Zulfa Kurnia Umani Hari.
Also appreciated are Mercu Sanjung Special Incentives (HSK/MINDS) for student involvement and Mercu Sanjung Special Incentives (Expo Konvo).
The ceremony was also enlivened with cultural performances and singing involving Prema Band, Kencana Pawana and Aural Adrenaline.
