‘Our Kitchen Project’ helps UMP students
PEKAN, 7 January 2022 - A total of 600 roti canai were successfully distributed for free to Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) students in the UMP Our Kitchen Project - Students Help Students around the Durham Student Residence, Pekan and the UMP Gambang Mosque.
More interestingly, it was made by UMP volunteers from the Yayasan UMP Squad who also helped raise funds, prepare the dough, make the roti canai, and distribute them to UMP students.
The Project Manager, a second-year student of the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering Technology (FTKPM), Muhammad Hisammudin Abdul Halim, said his first attempt was successful and it was a valuable experience for him and other volunteers who began learning to make roti canai this morning.
“This project is a platform for the public to assist students and those in need.
“This noble initiative was mobilised by 20 volunteers to help reduce students’ daily expenses and provide them with breakfast before starting today’s lecture session.
“In addition, the ‘Our Kitchen Project’ initiative can further strengthen the relationship among UMP students themselves.
“With the outstanding response and support received, we will continue this programme in the future,” he said, who actively runs programmes under Yayasan UMP.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of Yayasan UMP, Mohd Jamil Mohd Ja’afar expressed his appreciation towards the commitment of Yayasan UMP Squad volunteers who have always supported all Yayasan UMP programmes.
“This programme is the result of the students’ ideas, who are mindful of student welfare and various programmes are in plan to be implemented during this year.
“Meanwhile, through the organisation of Tok Gajah Virtual Challenge 2021, we received a very encouraging response and managed to accumulate a total collection of RM85,029.00.
“This year, Yayasan UMP will host Deer Virtual Run 2022 and Shark Virtual Run 2022 which are among the activities for raising funds while fostering a healthy lifestyle among campus residents and the local community,” he said.
