UMPSA organises korban and akikah in conjunction with Aidiladha
PEKAN, 19 June 2024 – In an effort to enliven the atmosphere in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha and towards the end of Tashriq day, the Islamic and Human Development Centre (PIMPIN), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) successfully carried out the korban and akikah programme.
The programme saw as many as eight cows and two goats being slaughtered at the University Mosque, UMPSA Pekan.
The programme was also graced by the presence of the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin with his wife, Datin Nooraziza Sabarudin who was also doing the korban.
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellors and the management of UMPSA.
The slicing activity was led by the Director of PIMPIN, Associate Professor Dr. Rashidi Abbas and assisted by nearly 150 volunteers consisting of staff and students.
More interestingly, this korban activity was also joined by RHB Islamic Bank which donated a cow.
Representatives from RHB Islamic Bank were the Head of Business Development (Non-Retail), Ishak Othman, East Coast Regional Director, Tuan Haji Yusof Abdullah and Branch Manager, Mustaffa Kamal Mohamed Noor.
The UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie expressed gratitude that UMPSA was able to continue this year’s korban programme successfully.
“The programme is not only to attain the pleasure of Allah SWT but also to give joy to the less fortunate as well as instil a sense of love between the UMP residents and the local community.
“Not to forget, thank you to RHB Islamic Bank for participating in this programme.
“The korban meat was distributed to 400 people consisting of those who are eligible, including staff from the security division, international students, landscaping staff and cleaning staff,” he said.
He added that some of the korban meat was cooked which was then enjoyed by UMPSA residents and nearby communities.
“This time, the process of slicing and cutting meat is done in a spacious and comfortable place at the UMPSA Mosque.
“Thank you to all UMPSA staff who arrived as early as 8:00 am to help manage this korban activity,” he said.
One of the international students from Egypt, Abdelrahman Mohamed Ismail Farouk, 29, told that he was very excited to participate in this volunteer activity.
“The first time participating in this korban activity is very enjoyable.
“There are many interesting things that I learned, especially in the process of slaughtering cows that are managed very professionally and I am excited to see here in Malaysia that there are many who will help in this activity.
“I also did not expect to be given the opportunity to help my countrymen to prepare Arabic rice to be enjoyed with campus residents,” he said, who is currently continuing his PhD study at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA).
