KUALA LUMPUR, 18 November 2021 - A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for strategic collaboration was signed between the Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES) and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) at the Podium Hall, Ministry of Youth and Sports Tower, Putrajaya, today.
This collaboration can benefit both parties in producing data science-driven outputs that can be utilised by all stakeholders, especially in the aspect of youth development in the country.
The ceremony saw the Chairman of the Board of Directors of IYRES, Dr. Muhammad Mahadi Mohamad and Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, who acts as UMP Vice-Chancellor, signed the MoU document.
Also present were the Chief Executive Officer of IYRES, Dr. Vellapandian Ponnusamy and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of UMP, Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli.
According to Dr. Muhammad Mahadi, through this joint venture, IYRES, a research institution under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will utilise data from youth development studies, and UMP can share expertise, especially in the context of data science that can contribute towards the provision of big data.
“I am confident that IYRES is on the right track with the Youth Data Hub as a one-stop centre for the latest and relevant data on youth development.
“The Analytics Hub is one of the initiatives set in motion in producing output driven by data analytics from the available data.
“The diagnostic- and predictive-based analytical results enable stakeholders to make more objective and strategic decisions and planning related to youth development,” he said.
According to him, to complement the data collection initiative to support the implementation of the analytics hub, a data warehouse will be developed through activities involving implementation across ministries or departments and agencies that have been executed through Ydata@IYRES.
According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, this MoU is also a form of collaboration to fulfil the duties and functions of both parties in conducting research initiatives, data analysis, expertise, publication and joint organisation of forums, discussion series, seminars and training in public data and youth development.
“The collaboration between UMP and IYRES is seen as strategic and coincides with the current trend in facing the era of industrial revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) as big data analytics is a pillar of future technological advancement,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UMP and IYRES delegations also witnessed the Machine Learning & Data Science: The Future Impacts Webinar as a joint initiative in obtaining clear information related to data science.
