UMP, Top Glove expand strategic collaboration in career development
Kuantan, 9 November 2020 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has forged a strategic collaboration with the largest medical glove manufacturer Top Glove Sdn. Bhd. in four areas involving students’ career development, job offers to UMP graduates, industrial training, and sponsorship that will benefit both parties.
In the online signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) event, UMP was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin and the Director of the UMP Career Placement & Development Centre, Dr. Irene Ting Wei Kiong.
Top Glove Sdn. Bhd. was represented by the General Manager, Group Human Resources, Loke Kean Mun and Senior Manager, Group Human Resources, Angie Leah Ong Leng.
According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, industrial training programme is essential to UMP students to continue to enhance self competency after finishing the lecture sessions in UMP.
“Through internships, UMP students are not only exposed to the real work environment but also improve their efficiency and skills.
“The more students show their ability in completing tasks, the more likely they will realise their potential job that suits their passion, skills and strength.
“The university appreciates the commitment given by Top Glove in the industrial training placement,” he said.
He said this year saw a total of 70 students UMP successfully underwent the training and gained experience in this company.
“The partnership that involves more industrial players can also empower national education, especially the area of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
“Therefore, more space and role are open to the industry in the effort to improve the graduate employability through this collaboration networking,” he said.
Meanwhile, Loke Kean Mun said they are interested in establishing a collaboration with technical with universities such as UMP.
“Top Glove is also targeting highly skilled graduates to join us to contribute to the company’s holistic operation development ecosystem,” he said.
Also present were the Dean of Student Development, Student Affairs and Alumni Department, Dr. Ahmad Johari Mohamad and Dean of Student Services, Student Affairs and Alumni Department, Associate Professor Dr. Mansor Sulaiman.
