JOHOR BAHRU, 19 May 2024 – A total of 50 members of the Student Association of Anak Darul Ta’zim (ISKANDAR) Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) organised the Iskandar on Tour 5.0 programme in Johor Darul Takzim.
According to the President of ISKANDAR, Amir Farish Hairul Helmi, in order to support the UMPSA Sustainability Agenda, ISKANDAR also collaborated with the Centre for Sustainability Development (ESG/SDG) for the planting of 50 saplings in the Ayer Hitam Forest.
“This programme supports SDG-4 (Quality Education), SDG-8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG-13 (Climate Action), SDG-15 (Life on Land) and SDG-17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
“Trees act as absorbers of carbon dioxide in the air.
“By planting more trees, we help improve the environment and can clean the air from excess carbon dioxide that can harm health,” he said.
He added this programme is one of the initiatives to bring students closer to the community while benefiting the community here.
“Among the activities carried out are catching crayfish, village agriculture, learning traditional kueh making, communal works and also engaging with high school students,” he said.
The three-day programme from 17 to 19 May 2024 was officiated by Bukit Naning State Assemblyman, Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Mohd Fuad Haji Tukirin at the Kompleks Penghulu Mukim Ayer Hitam.
It is hoped that such a programme will continue in the future to create awareness of the importance of a clean environment and foster community values among UMPSA students and the community while fostering the spirit of volunteerism in students and in turn they can be harmonious and have great personality.
