ICOAIMS 2023 International Conference advances Mathematics and Statistics disciplines for tech-savvy community
KUANTAN, 22 August 2023 - A total of 116 participants were involved in the International Conference on Applied & Industrial Mathematics and Statistics (ICoAIMS) for 2023 which lasted for three days starting today until 24 August 2023.
Participants came from five countries: Malaysia, Oman, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.
This international conference is the 4th series organised by the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) in collaboration with partners from the Malaysian Mathematical Sciences Association (PERSAMA) and the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).
Present to officiate the programme was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli.
Also present at the ceremony were the Dean of PSM, Professor Dr. Mohd Zuki Salleh and the Chairman of ICoAIMS 2023, Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rashid Ab Hamid.
According to Professor Dr. Kamal, with the theme ‘Mathematics and Statistics for Technological Society’, the conference successfully brought together leading researchers, academics and industry experts from around the world to discuss and exchange ideas on the latest advances in the field of Mathematics and Statistical Science.
“This conference is not only a platform for academics but also for industry practitioners to share ideas in addressing real industry problems while exploring the potential for collaboration to drive innovation in related fields.
“This platform can promote the discipline of Mathematics and Statistics as a wide range of professions, especially in technology development.
“This is in line with the UMPSA Strategic Plan 2021-2025 which generates new advanced technology through research initiatives and communication technology,” he said.
He said UMPSA is always committed to contributing to the development of high-impact research in line with efforts to achieve excellence in research and innovation in the implementation of the UMPSA Strategic Plan 2021-2025 which requires the commitment of all parties to strengthen academic networks collaboratively with local and global authoritative partners.
“Therefore, for this purpose, it is important that academics, especially Mathematicians, Statisticians and industry practitioners, are ready to transform and advance their knowledge and skills to big data analysis, internet of things, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and other related future technologies,” he said.
In addition, the conference featured four special speakers from various professions and backgrounds.
Among them were the Director of Research Management Centre, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Professor Dr. Jumat Sulaiman, AI Project Leader, Corpy & Co., Inc. Japan, Dr. Fairoza Amira Hamzah, UMPSA researcher, Associate Professor Dr. Yuhani Yusof and researcher from the University of Manchester, Professor Dr. Sergey V. Utyuzhnikov.
