UMPSA hosts Community Rehabilitation Programme Engagement Session

PEKAN, 26 June 2024 - The Disability Services Unit of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (OkUMPSA) in collaboration with the Pahang State Department of Social Welfare (JKM) organised a Pahang State Level Community Rehabilitation Programme (PPDK) Engagement Session at the Main Lecture Hall, Centre for Modern Languages (CML), UMPSA Pekan yesterday.

The presence of the Senate Member, Yang Berhormat Senator Isaiah D Jacob was welcomed by the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.

Also present were the Director of JKM Pahang, Khairul Amri bin Ahmad and the Director of OkUMPSA, Dr. Munira Abdul Razak.

Yang Berhormat Senator Isaiah D Jacob congratulated and thanked 109 committee members and officers at 55 PPDK in the state for being involved in the success of this engagement session.

“The Pahang PPDK Association was established to coordinate PPDK governance more effectively and efficiently.

“Through this programme, various issues were raised related to infrastructure improvement needs in addition to guidelines on allowance rates and leave periods for supervisors and PPDK officers,” he said.

There was also discussion about the proposed importance of mental health management among officers, trainees, and caregivers and considering the demands and needs of community centres for disabled children in Pahang which were seen to be increasing.

He also hoped that this programme could be continued in the future in an effort to become a platform in the development of local communities for the rehabilitation of social integration of persons with disabilities (PwD).

The Director of OkUMPSA, Dr. Munira Abdul Razak also thanked all those who made this programme a success.

She said that the university strongly supports the implementation of such programmes in line with the 6th initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to support PwD students.

“PPDK DAMAi at UMPSA has been established since 2023 and serves to create an inclusive and conducive campus environment or ecosystem for PwD citizens by coordinating the efficient and effective management of PwD citizens at all levels of university administration.

“In addition, OkUMPSA initiatives focus on inclusive and conducive technologies such as the establishment of OkUMPSA studios, PwD Digital Hub (HaDO) and I.K.M.A.L Modules in line with the implementation of the UMPSA 2021-2025 Strategic Plan,” she said.
