EduNexa shines at CITREX 2025: Muhammad Amir wins ‘Best of the Best Student’ Award with Digital Learning Innovation

PEKAN, 23 June 2025 – A proud achievement was recorded by Muhammad Amir Mohamed Ali, a final-year student of the Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) from the Faculty of Computing (FK), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) when he was named the recipient of the Best of the Best Student Award at the Creative and Innovative Technology Research Exposition (CITREX) 2025 recently.

The achievement was the result of an innovation in a learning management system called EduNexa, an integrated digital platform developed to revolutionise the online learning experience.

The project also won a gold medal and the Special Award for ‘Promising Innovator in ICT’, making Muhammad Amir one of the most outstanding participants in UMPSA’s annual research exposition.

According to Muhammad Amir, the idea to develop EduNexa was sparked by observations of the significant gap in current digital learning systems.

He realised that many educators and students face difficulties in accessing platforms that are comprehensive, consistent in content quality, and flexible for various user groups.

“Many existing platforms focus on a single aspect, whether it is teaching, course management, or interaction.

“EduNexa, however, was developed as a comprehensive solution, from creating interactive content to AI integration and secure payment systems.

“This project began in January 2024 and was fully completed in March 2025,” he said.

It was developed in collaboration with Yayasan Pendidikan Rakyat and received technical guidance support from a lecturer of the UMPSA Faculty of Computing, Ts. Ku Saimah Ku Ibrahim.

EduNexa was designed as a web-based Learning Management System (LMS) targeting not only higher education institutions but also small and medium enterprises (SMEs), open learning communities, and gig workers who need flexible and on-demand learning.

Among the unique features of EduNexa is its ability to easily create interactive video courses, conduct live online classes, provide various forms of learning materials (visual, audio, text), support adaptive learning through AI technology, offer secure and automated payment systems, and monitor individual learning progress.

He further stated that EduNexa is not only capable of solving logistical and access issues but also of building an inclusive, user-friendly, and future-oriented learning ecosystem.

“The main goal of EduNexa’s development is to provide a digital learning system that can benefit various user segments, including students, educators, workers, and even training organisations or companies.

“It also contributes to efforts in empowering skilled workforces, in line with the nation’s lifelong learning agenda.

“With an initial development cost of RM15,000 and full implementation costing around RM50,000, EduNexa is considered a strategic investment in the digital education sector,” he added.

He hopes this platform can be further developed, including in the form of a mobile app and more extensive artificial intelligence integration, so that it can be used by more users across different levels.

The achievement of Muhammad Amir Mohamed Ali at CITREX 2025 not only reflects the excellence of UMPSA students’ research but also opens opportunities for EduNexa to be introduced at higher levels, including commercialisation and collaboration with external agencies.

He also hopes that EduNexa will be widely used by higher education institutions, training centres, small and medium enterprises, and the global learning community in efforts to broaden access to high-quality and flexible education.

He further added that this award is not an end, but rather the beginning of a longer journey.

“I am determined to continue improving this system and ensuring that it truly benefits society and industry,” he said.

CITREX 2025 once again served as a significant platform for the UMPSA community to showcase creativity, research outputs, and innovations with potential for commercialisation and benefit to the general public.

The participation of students like Muhammad Amir Mohamed Ali shows that today’s young generation is not only creative but also ready to bring significant changes in the field of technology and education.
