UMPSA aims for 3 gold medals at SUKIPT 2024
GAMBANG, 30 August 2024 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Professor Ts. Dato' Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, recently handed over the UMPSA flag to the contingent representative, Ahmad Azad Rifqi Redzuan, who will represent the university at the 2024 Higher Education Institution Games (SUKIPT) in Sintok, Kedah.
The UMPSA contingent will be led by Head of Contingent, Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, and Deputy Head of Contingent, Mohd Aznorizam Haji Ismail.
SUKIPT will take place over eight days, from 6 to 14 September 2024, at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
A total of 67 athletes—56 men and 11 women—along with 18 officials, including managers, secretaries, and coaches, will represent UMPSA at SUKIPT this year.
This year, 28 sports events will be contested. UMPSA is aiming for three gold, two silver, and seven bronze medals in eight participating events: futsal, taekwondo, golf, cycling, rugby, archery, athletics, and martial arts.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin urged the athletes to seize this opportunity.
"Do not adopt the mindset of merely participating to represent the university. Instead, compete with the goal of seizing opportunities to qualify for the national team, where greater challenges await at regional and international levels, such as the ASEAN University Games (AUG), World University Championship (WUC), World University Games (WUG), and various other sports tournaments.
"Appreciate the opportunity to participate in the SUKIPT Championship as a stepping stone to future successes in sports and competitive events," he said.
Also present were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, Director of the Sports and Culture Centre, Mohd Aznorizamin Ismail, General Manager of the Student Affairs and Alumni Department, Haryani Abdullah, and Director of the A.D.A.B. Academy, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Nizam Mohmad Kahar.
